Parent Chat Session #2

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you may know, the Wauwatosa School District has adopted its first District Equity Plan. In brief, this plan consists of five main pillars developed through extensive dialogues with the Wauwatosa School District’s Equity team. It also has its theory of action tied to the Culturally Proficient Schools and Administration Offices policy 5440. The team created the following five pillars:

  1. Empower all students to achieve their own academic vision/goals and encourage excellence in education for all;

  2. Increase and improve cultural awareness/competence of all teachers, administrators, and staff;

  3. Ensure a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and equitable school environment for all, where we value all students and respect their differences;

  4. Recruit, hire, and retain teachers, administrators, and staff of color; and,

  5. Strengthen parent and community partnerships.

In regard to Pillar 5, Strengthen Parent and Community Partnerships, I would like to invite you to a sharing opportunity in an open dialogue format. On Thursday, May 9th 5:30pm, please come to share your thoughts about your family’s overall experience at Washington. Childcare for children ages 4-13 will be available during the meeting. Please complete this questionarre if you plan to use the childcare services.

If you have any questions about the meeting, please contact me at 414-773-1800. I look forward to this opportunity.

Sincerely,

Joe Russell

The importance of equity work in the Wauwatosa School District extends through many years of dialogue, collaboration and action plans. This work can be seen in many of our documents that have been created over the last 5 years. These documents include our Culturally Proficient Schools and Administration Offices (CPSA) policy 5440, Strategic Objectives 2016-2021, Wauwatosa Core Principles of Teaching and Learning for All, District Teaching and Learning Alignment, and our Instructional Framework. The outcomes of these documents are a part of our continuous learning as a district. We believe these documents will help us exceed the expectations of culturally relevant teaching and high academic achievement for all.

Timberwolf Trot All School Incentive

We surpassed our goal and we are seeking some help with our All School Incentive as sleeping on the roof is played out! Time for something new. In considering several options, we have found something that we think our students will absolutely love, but

We NEED some parent support.

Are you creative?

Do you like to make a mess?

Do you like to laugh?

Do you remember Double D.A.R.E??

Intrigued? I have three staff members on a small team needing some help planning a fun obstacle course type assembly for teachers when we meet our Trot goal.

Nominate a WSD Employee for the Distinguished Service Award!

Dear Wauwatosa School District Staff and Families -

Do you know a Wauwatosa School District employee that goes "above and beyond" normal expectations and embodies exemplary service and dedication in their work? YOU can help them be recognized for their level of excellence by nominating them for the Distinguished Service Award!

Each year, during our Opening Day kickoff for the new school year, the Wauwatosa School Board recognizes staff members with this great honor. Employees, students, parents and community members are invited to nominate individuals for the award. The criteria and process are as follows:

  • The nominee must have been employed by the District for at least three years.
  • The nominee can be recognized no more than once every three years. See Recent Recipients of Distinguished Service Award.
  • An individual may nominate no more than two employees each year.
  • The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 10, 2019, at 4:00 p.m.
  • A committee of the Board will review nominations and select the recipients.
  • When making its decision, the committee will consider (1) demonstrated services to the District which are distinguishable by excellence; (2) quantity and quality of accomplishments listed in the nominating paragraph; and (3) overall realization of this person’s going "above and beyond" normal expectations.
  • Recipients will be recognized at the Opening Day event in August.

You can nominate an employee via this form.

If you have any questions, please contact our Supervisor of Human Resources, Dean Nemoir via email.

Thank you for helping recognize the work of our outstanding team members.

Sincerely,

Wauwatosa School District
