Hirsch Hawk Parents,

The third and final required Project-Based Learning plan (PBL#3) is now available on our website at www.springisd.org/athome.

Remember, this is the last of three PBLs that must be completed to fulfill all of your requirements to complete the 2019-20 school year. This PBL is short and will extend from Tuesday, May 26 through Thursday, May 28 with one assignment due.

Students should upload their completed assignment through Schoology by May 28. Please note, if anyone is still working on PBL #1 and #2, teachers will continue to accept assignments. The goal is to support all students to complete ALL work by the end of the school year.

Do you want your child to have the academic and language advantage?

Hirsch Elementary is a proud Dual Language School

Learning two languages is a big advantage for any student, and Spring ISD is proud to offer dual language classrooms at several schools currently, along with new locations for 2020-21. We’re proud to expand choice and opportunities for our Spring ISD families!

The two-way dual language program does not only cater to families whose first language at home is Spanish. Families whose first language at home is English can enroll in the program, so their scholars can immerse in both the English and Spanish language and culture early on in their education.

For Dual Language application information please visit our Hirsch Elementary web page at https://www.springisd.org/Hirsch2

For information about Dual Language Kindergarten please email Mrs. Salazar at csalazar@springisd.org or Mrs. Ramirez at aramirez@springisd.org.

Please send all DL Application to Mrs. Moreno, Hirsch ESL Specialist, at jmoren1@springisd.org.

How Student Grades Will Be Determined

As students start to turn in their completed PBL assignments, we want to update everyone on how the grading system will work.

Within each PBL, there is a grading rubric, which will be used to assess each assignment. That rubric will be used, in conjunction with earlier marking periods, to determine final grades.

Here is a graphic that will help explain how grades will be calculated. Should you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Full day Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten starts next school year. Register now!

Are you as excited as we are? For the first time, full day Pre-K and KG will be available at all Spring ISD elementary schools next year. Spring ISD prekindergarten and kindergarten online registration for the 2020-21 school year opens April 27. Pre-K students will need to be four years old on or before Sept. 1, 2020 and meet Texas Education Agency eligibility requirements. Students who will be five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2020 and are not enrolled in Spring ISD PreK this year may also pre-register.

To register for prekindergarten or kindergarten and for more information, including eligibility requirements and Frequently Asked Questions, parents should go to www.springisd.org/prek. District staff will be available to assist parents in both English and Spanish with the online registration, if needed, by calling 281-891-6337.

Tell your family, friends, and neighbors to register their Pre-K students early! Do not delay.

A Few Words From Our Spring ISD Pre-K Parents!

summer learning at-home is coming soon

In light of ongoing health and safety concerns related to the pandemic, Spring ISD has redesigned summer school for this year into an online experience available to ALL students and tailored to meet specific instructional needs.

Specifically, the district will be hosting two Summer Learning At-Home sessions to run Monday through Thursday with the first scheduled for June 10-30 and the second slated to run July 7- 28.

For students requiring grade-level support in order to be ready for the next school year, the sessions will include targeted tutorials in reading/literacy as well as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). For students looking for additional learning opportunities, we will be offering different enrichment camps depending on their grade level, including AP boot camp, GT camp, STEAM Camp and Literacy Camp.

Watch for more information about these offerings with specific guidance on what programs might best meet the needs of your student. If you’re thinking of participating in ANY of these programs, please do not turn in your district-issued Chromebook. You are invited to keep it until the end of our summer school sessions.
