This Week's Testing Schedule

This week we have several testing dates for ACT and AP courses. Please check the schedule and be sure to bring a #2 pencil and photo id.

Speak at Graduation

Seniors interested in auditioning to speak at graduation will audition on May 3rd immediately after school in Mrs. Brady's room (S114). Please arrive with a prepared speech no longer than three to five minutes. Speakers must be seniors in good standing with the school. Speeches must be memorized, but you may use notes. See Mrs. Brady if you have questions.

Balfour will be here this Friday, May 6th in the lunchroom for cap and gowns retrieval and payment.

Trip to Italy with Mrs. Bowling

Mrs. Bowling will be leading a group of Hazel Green High School students on a trip called Italy in Depth! On this once-in-a-lifetime adventure, students will explore important historical sites, discover the rich diversity and cultural heritage, and experience incomparable learning moments. In addition, high school students have the opportunity to get one free college credit! This trip will be an unforgettable educational experience for your child. You must sign up by tomorrow, May 3rd, 2016. For more information, please see the flyer below.

Boys Basketball Tryouts

Basketball tryouts will be held May 17th and 18th from 4:00-5:45 PM.

Marksmanship Training and Rifle Team

JROTC Marksmanship Training and Rifle Team tryouts for the Hazel Green High School 2016-2017 Air Rifle Team will be held each school day May 3rd to May 18th. The training and tryouts are open to any student who will be enrolled in JROTC for at least one semester next year. All equipment will be provided. Please contact 1stSgt Schultz for registration forms or more information.

Junior Optimist Club

There will be a Junior Optimist Club meeting after school today in Mrs. Thompson's room. Remember to bring a bag of candy!


There is a health science internship available for 2016-2017 school year. You need to sign-up for an interview and time slot. More information can be found on the HOSA board. If you have any questions please see Mr. Ebert. Also, our last HOSA meeting will be tomorrow, May 3rd after school. We will vote for our next class officers so don't miss it!

Yearbook Day

Yearbook day is almost here! Make sure you order a yearbook so that you can attend! Yearbooks are $65.00 and limited quantities are available. Visit or see Mrs. Brady today! Yearbook day is next week, May 6th!

Yearbook Day Schedule

  • 4th Period - Students will be called to the football field.
  • Tech Students will be dropped off by the football field at 2:30 PM.
  • Co-Op, Blended Learning and Early Grads can return for yearbook day if they purchased a yearbook. They will report directly to the football field area.
  • Only currently enrolled students will be allowed yearbook day.
  • If it rains, yearbook signing will take place in the gym.

HG Sports

Tykeia finished 3rd in 100m hurdles. She has qualified in 3 events for State so far and one more to go. Brock Lane has also qualified. Several other athletes have also qualified, more news to come!

2016 Legends Round Table Event

On Thursday, June 9, 4:00–5:00 PM, Terry Bradshaw will join Mel Blount and John Stallworth on stage at the Westin-Huntsville to discuss their careers, challenges they faced on and off the football field, the importance of education, and preparation for a career and life beyond sports. They might even tell a few football stories! Attendance is free to coaches and athletes from all sports, teachers, mentor, parents, and students who attend with groups! We realize that your school will be on summer break, but we hope you will bring your students to enjoy the event with us! Seating is limited, and tickets per group are limited to twenty-five. Please call Freeda McDowell at 256-536-8050 to secure your tickets.

Scholarship to MSU

Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity at Mississippi State University is awarding a $1000 scholarship to any deserving man or woman who is planning to enroll at Mississippi State in the Fall. Being a member or becoming a member is not required to be eligible for the scholarship. Please note that a phone interview and/or a face to face interview may be required if you are selected as a finalist. The deadline to apply is July 1st.

Physical Night

Physical Night will be held Monday, May 9th starting at 5:15 PM. Cost is $10.00 per athlete. Please fill out physical packets ahead of time. Packets can be picked up from each head coach or downloaded on the HGHS athletic homepage. All pages need to be printed and signed. There will be notaries on site during physical night to help complete packets.


Parents/Guardians, the end of the school year is May 24, 2016. No medication, with the exception of asthma inhalers, Epi-pens and diabetic supplies will be given to students to transport home. Parents/Guardians will need to come to the school to sign out these medications. All medications not retrieved by May 25th will be destroyed in accordance with Alabama School Health Service’s Administrative Medication Policy. Please plan now. Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form into Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.

Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend
- Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.

1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of the school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.

2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.

3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.

First Priority/FCS

Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.

Reward Cards:
Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit:
Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.

(Hazel Green Pharmacy Loyalty Key Tag Program) Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your loyalty key tag when you visit Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you purchase a Prescription/Gift/OTC have them swipe your tag. HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a loyalty key tag, just stop by the main office to pick one up.
