PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Bulldog Families,

Spring has finally sprung, and with it so has all kinds of connected learning and inquiry. Our 4th grade students have visited Conner Prairie several times as part of a new partnership that was created between HSE and Conner Prairie this year. Students are able to learn and apply science, math, social studies, reading, and writing skills in an amazing community-based classroom led by an HSE teacher-in-residence. We have two third grade classes partnering with a kindergarten class to find ways they can help animals in our community. We were fortunate to have Fishers High School students as well as an expert from the Humane Society support us with our learning and service brainstorming. You will be hearing more about their learning and ways that you and your students can help.

Our second-grade classes as well as a kindergarten class have been involved in a passion project about recycling. We had experts from HSE Facilities, Ray’s Trash, and Republic Services share information as well as answer our questions about how we can do our part to reduce trash in our community. Second grade students wrote letters to Dr. Bourff and Mayor Fadness and were honored to receive visits from both of them. It has been energizing for students and adults to see the power of student voice. As a result of this collaborative recycling study and work, we are now recycling in our cafeteria. We would like to thank our parent volunteers for your help with this project!

As part of inquiry and other types of learning, there is the need to assess what our students have learned. Third and fourth grade students take part in state assessments every spring. Our third-grade students have just now completed the Indiana IREAD3 assessment, and we will be administering the new ILEARN assessment in third and fourth grades starting the week of April 22nd. We will share more information with families as we get IREAD3 results and finalize our building testing schedule for ILEARN.

We have a busy week as we return from spring break. Spirit Week will lead up to our Bulldog Color Blast on Friday, April 12th from 6:00-8:00p.m. Please see the information below about the schedule of spirit days:

We will be welcoming prospective kindergarten students and their families for an open house on Thursday, April 11th from 5:00-7:00p.m. It is difficult to believe that it is almost time to say good-bye to our fourth graders and welcome a new class of kindergarten students!

We would like to wish you and your family a relaxing and safe spring break. We will see you back at school on Monday, April 8th.

As always, thank you for partnering with us in education. Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Lori Mankin

News from the Nurse

Occasionally, there may be a case of head lice in our school. We encourage families to reach out to our school nurse, Mrs. Cernero, to address any questions you may have about lice and treatment suggestions; she is a wonderful resource. In Hamilton Southeastern, we follow the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Association of School Nurses, and the Hamilton County Health Department on illnesses and notification. Please use this link to access more information regarding the identification and treatment of lice.
