Smarter Balanced State Test Update
Last spring, students in grades 3 – 8 and 11 in the Beaverton School District and throughout Oregon took the state tests (Smarter Balanced) in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
In addition to content standards, these assessments are designed to measure critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills. The test results provide you, our schools, our district and the state with information about how well we are preparing our students for their next steps, including college and career readiness.
Our students will take these tests once between February and June 2018. House Bill 2655 permits parents and adult students to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting a form to the school the student attends. The school shall provide any student who is exempted from a state test with supervised study time while other students are testing.

Local Option Levy - Did you know?
Beaverton School District’s five-year Local Option Levy is set to expire in June 2018. The levy generates $30 million per year and provides more than 300 teachers in our schools to reduce class sizes Districtwide.
The School Board is considering two options, asking voters to renew the current levy for another five years or for an increase in the tax rate which could generate additional resources.
The School Board will poll likely voters this winter.
Inclement Weather Information
The District makes decisions based on the ability to operate school buses safely; the ability for students and parents to get to school safely, and the ability for employees to get to work safely and on time. The decision that is made will be for the entire District. As always, parents may choose to make different decisions based on their particular location.
The District will notify parents and staff via SchoolMessenger with a Non-School Hours Emergency message. Please manage your communication preferences in SchoolMessenger InfoCenter.

Hazeldale Elementary School rebuild update
Construction is progressing on the rebuild of Hazeldale Elementary School. Structural steel is being installed for the administration office and special education classroom wing. A crane is moving pre-cast panels into place for the gym. Work is also underway on the underground plumbing and electrical.
In late September, the Hazeldale community celebrated the official groundbreaking for the new school. Hazeldale staff and students are located temporarily in the new middle school on NW 118th this year, while their school is demolished and rebuilt.
The new Hazeldale Elementary School is scheduled to welcome students in the fall of 2017.
You can follow the construction progress on the webcam.
