First Day of School Car Parade! Wednesday, September 2nd, 3:15-4:15pm
- This will be a drive-through event only.
- We will not be collecting or distributing any materials at this event.
- We encourage each child to make a sign with their name, grade, and teacher's name, to hold up as they drive by!
Parade begins in the East Ridge School Bus Entrance - Follow the signs!
- Our teachers and staff will be arranged in grade level or specialist groups so that you can more easily spot your teacher(s) to wave! (They will have signs, too!)
- Classroom teachers will notify their families if they are unable to participate in person that day.
- We will video a "drive by" of the parade and make it available later in the week for those who are unable to come that day.
Community Building Weeks
- We are hosting a first day of school car parade to celebrate the first day of school! See details above.
- Each classroom teacher will be conducting individual family connection meetings. Students and their parents/caregivers should attend these meetings. Teachers will be communicating sign up information to families.
- Our theme for September is "How to Be Distance Learner." Classroom teachers will host daily class meetings for students, each morning and each afternoon. The focus of these class meetings will be on helping students get to know one another and their teacher, learn about class and school expectations, and learn how to be a distance learner and classroom community member.
- During the community building weeks, teachers' work days will be focused on the class meetings at the beginning and end of the day and also on meeting with every family. Teachers will not be providing regular academic content-area instruction during these weeks. Limited independent/asynchronous student tasks may be assigned for students to complete during the day, with a focus on getting to know you activities and learning how to be a distance learner.
- Some grade levels will be doing student assessments during these weeks.
- We will also have some whole-school content, such as videos and read alouds from Mrs. White and other staff.
- Each class will have one connections class meeting with their PE, Music, and Library teachers between 9/3-9/11. Our regular weekly specialist schedule will begin on 9/14.
- We are in the process of planning some activities for our new students to get to know other students and our school. More info soon!
- We are in the process of planning our Curriculum Nights in a virtual setting. More info soon!
- Our regular schedule for classroom instruction and academic content will begin on Monday, September 21. Prior to that date, teachers will be providing information to students and families regarding how to navigate Schoology to find their daily schedule and content.
Attendance
During distance learning, teachers will take daily attendance during the first class meeting in the morning. Students will be considered present if they log into the live Zoom session; students may be counted as present even if they opt to have their camera off.
If a student is not present at the start of the school day, they will initially be noted as absent. We understand that there are circumstances that may prevent live participation during the scheduled school day, and we want to honor the possibility of asynchronous learning on the part of a student. Attendance through one or more of the following activities will be allowed:
● Daily logins to Schoology*, Northshore’s learning management system;
● Daily interaction with the teacher(s) by sending a message through Schoology or via email;
● Evidence of participation in a task or assignment posted in Schoology;
If your child is sick or unable to participate in school activities, please report your child's attendance by calling our attendance line at (425) 408-4410 or sending an email to erattendance@nsd.org.
