November 2019
Happy November!
As many of you know, our elementary school in Cordova was approved by SCS. The 6-12 campus was denied by SCS, and we appealed it to the state. Unfortunately, the state upheld the SCS decision, so MSE 6-12 Cordova will not be opening next year. While we may not agree with the state's reasons for denial, we respect their decision and are still excited to be opening a new elementary school next year. We are currently working on our plan for next year, and we will share details and job postings with you in the upcoming weeks.
Welcome to Our New Staff!
We want to give an official network welcome to all of the staff that have officially joined the MSE Family in the past quarter. We are so glad to have you!

Alternative Database Search Update
After the recent cyber attack on our high school server, we are looking to host our database on a different vendor. We have established a committee that is looking for alternatives and making a cost analysis. Mrs. Nelson is overseeing the whole process. We have five teams for Academics, Discipline, Website, Test Center and HR. If you would like to be a part of this search, please let Mrs. Nelson or Mr. Beyhan know.

Bonus Goal Calculations
Bonus goals have been calculated. Your principal will give you a letter before Thanksgiving explaining the criteria for the bonuses that you are eligible for. You can reach out to Mrs. Nelson if you have any questions once you receive your letter.
Health Insurance Enrollment
The Open Enrollment for 2020 will start on December 1, 2019, and the insurance will be active starting January 1, 2020. This will be a passive enrollment, meaning, if you don’t have any changes, you don’t need to do anything. The rates will be the same. You may find the 2019 booklet here. The representatives from the consulting firm (Ross&Yerger) will be here on the following dates to discuss insurance:
Winchester Campus: December 4, 2019, at 2:30 pm
Mendenhall Campus: December 5, 2019, at 3:00 pm
The consulting firm will use an online enrollment tool for the first time this year. There will not be any paper signing. If you have any life-changing events and need to make any updates on your insurance, you will be able to submit them online.
If you can’t make the above mentioned times, you may call the help desk at any time before December 15, 2019.
ACT Scores for the Class of 2019
The state has released final ACT averages for the class of 2019. Congratulations to the MSE class of 2019 who had an average score of 18.5! This average puts us number 7 out of all the 39 high schools in Shelby County, and 1.6 points higher than the SCS average of 16.9. Our percent of students scoring above a 21 was 21.7, which places us 8th in the district.
New ELA Curriculum
We are considering piloting a new ELA curriculum beginning in January as we explore our options for the 2020-2021 school year. If you teach K-8 ELA and are interested in pioneering a new curriculum, please reach out to Mrs. Nelson for information. The pilot would involve teaching a new curriculum with additional implementation support from Mrs. Nelson, the academic coordinators, and your instructional coach.

LOE Scores
The 2018-19 school year Level of Effectiveness for each educator has been finalized on the TNCompass portal. There a few educators whose scores can not be finalized due to not meeting the expected number of observations. If you have any questions about LOE scores, feel free to reach out to Mr. Beyhan.
