When Thinking About WHY We Are Using Technology....

- How does it shift the focus to the students, putting them at the center of the learning?
- Does it require curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity?
- Does it allow students to accomplish something they could not without technology?

Canvas Corner
Region 11 Leveraging Canvas Conference June 14, 2018
Region 11 is looking for a few more digital posters for their Leveraging Canvas mini conference. What is a digital poster?
- Embracing technology, this sessions provides the opportunity for the presenters to share their best practices and strategies for leveraging Canvas and its associated technologies. The presenter should be prepared to share, via their own device, a digital poster (aka Canvas course) that captures key ideas and provides the participants information in a short 3-5 minute presentation. This session is conducted gallery- style with participants visiting each of the presentation stations. Monitors will be provided.
Bottom line, presenters would share their Canvas course and chat about how they use Canvas with their students. Keep in mind, presenters attend the conference for free. The digital poster session requires the least amount of prep and is only from 9-9:30 AM, which means you will have the rest of the day to attend classes. If you are willing to chat about course design to increase student engagement, please consider submitting a proposal.

Calm for Schools
In today’s rapidly changing world, children face unique social and emotional challenges. Kids are experiencing greater pressures earlier in life, and feel more stress and anxiety than ever before. What if their school day began with a few moments of quiet and stillness? Numerous studies have shown the many benefits of teaching mindfulness to children. Through mindfulness education, kids can develop a lifelong capacity for greater self-awareness, concentration, patience, and resilience.
That’s why we are excited to share The Calm Schools Initiative. Calm is offering every teacher in the world free access to Calm, the mindfulness app that hundreds of thousands of people all over the world use everyday. Under this initiative, any teacher with a K-12 classroom, anywhere in the world, can get free access to Calm’s paid subscription service (available on Android, iOS and the web). Teachers will have unlimited access to a growing library of guided meditations and mindfulness exercises, including Calm Kids, programs tailored for age groups from pre-K through high school.
