Sequoia Updates

CAASPP Testing:

We have had a great first week of CAASPP testing in English Language Arts and next week we move onto Math testing. Students will test in both Math and Science classes on Monday and Tuesday and then will have additional time in their elective classes on Thursday and Friday. We are asking our students to do their best on the state assessment. While the scores do not impact grades, the scores are used to help determine placement in both middle school and high school classes as well as show growth from year to year.

Teacher Appreciation Week

On behalf of all of our teachers and staff, we would like to thank our Sequoia community for the very generous notes, gift, food and support during teacher appreciation week. We are very fortunate to be apart of this wonderful school community.


STAFF APPRECIATION MONTH: We are Sequoia GIANTS and We Go Big! We will be celebrating our staff and showing our gratitude on each Wednesday in May, beginning Wednesday, May 8th, 2019. Our school year is rapidly coming to an end and it is time to show our appreciation to the incredible teachers and staff who work hard to enrich our children’s education. We need lots of food donations for this to be a success.

The 15th Annual Firecracker 5K Run and Walk and Kids 100-Yard Dash is a fantastic way to startthe July 4th holiday. So, gather up the family, dress is your best patriotic gear, and come join the fun on July 4th in downtown Pleasant Hill! Entry fee includes a commemorative race t-shirt!

  • WHAT: 5K Run and Walk and Kids 100 Yard Dash fun run for 7 & under
  • WHEN: July 4th with 5K at 8:00 AM; 100-yard dash fun run about 7:50 AM
  • WHERE: Downtown Pleasant Hill
  • WHY: Because all race net proceeds go to support Pleasant Hill schools
  • PRIZES FOR: Top male and female in the 5K and Kids 100-yard dash fun run


8th Grade End of the Year Surprise to students:

The yearbook class is putting together a surprise for the 8th grade class of 2019. We need a couple favors from you to complete this assignment.

What is needed:

  • Baby/infant photos (1-2) of your student.

  • Any group picture you may have of your child with their friends/classmates over

the three years at Sequoia Middle.

Photos Due:

  • ASAP

  • The final deadline is May 10th

Updated Immunization Guidelines for 2019-2020 7th Graders

The immunization regulations have changed starting July 1, 2019. Students advancing to 7th grade will need to show proof of

· the standard required immunizations for school

· and 1 dose of Tdap (booster for tetanus; diphtheria; and pertussis, also called whooping cough), given on or after the 7th birthday,

· and 2 doses of varicella (chickenpox), both doses given after 12 months of age, or healthcare provider verified “had disease”.


Without proof of these additional immunizations, your child will not be allowed to attend school. Full letter attached to this email.

Please bring appropriate documentation to Maggie Bowker in the office.
