Welcome to Honors Chemistry!
Weeks 3 & 4, 9/7-9/20: Module 2, The Atom
Hurricane Florence Information
I know many of you have been impacted by Hurricane Florence in one way or another, and most of you have done an excellent job of keeping me up to date on where you are etc. Thank you for that! My family and I are safe. Although there was some flooding and damage just a few miles down the road from my house, we are just very wet.
As of this time we won't be counting late point deductions on assignments submitted late. If you were impacted by the storm please just work as soon as you can to get caught up-however, your safety and well being comes first. If you weren't really impacted by the storm you should be working regularly.
Unfortunately events like these are unpredictable, and that is why I always recommend working ahead.
What's Happening This Week
You will notice that the amount of work each day also has increased with this Module. For Module 1 we built in extra time so that students who were added late to the course could get caught up and current with the course quickly.
What Should I Do If I Just Joined The Course?
1. Text/call/email/message Mrs. Dorr at 980-292-0082, within Canvas (inbox), or at rachel.dorr@ncpublicschools.gov.
2. Start the Getting Started Unit (linked at the bottom of your course homepage)
3. Complete the Required Student Survey
4. Work hard to get caught up. I realize it may take you an extra day or two, but it is well worth putting in some extra time now so that you are caught up before Module 2 starts next week.
How Modules Work In Honors Chemistry
Each Module has Requirements, or required assignments you must submit before the next Module will open automatically. For example, once you complete all of the requirements for Module 2, Module 3 will automatically open for you to begin.

Deadlines in Honors Chemistry
· Assignments are due by Module, and always on Thursdays at 11:59pm.
· Module 2 is due Thursday, September 20th at 11:59pm.
· Late point deductions will be applied to late assignments after that time. The Honors Chemistry Department has determined that is ample time for students added the 10th day to catch up and be on pace. At that time all late assignments are deducted 10 points for each week they are late up to a maximum of 50 points. You can read that policy HERE under the Late Policy tab at the bottom.
Course Pacing Guides
Here you will find the pacing guides for the entire course. At the bottom of the spreadsheet are different tabs for each week of the course.
Course Pacing GuidesEnabling Mixed Content
In Canvas you must enable mixed content on most browsers. It's important to be a diligent reader-if a slide says "view the video below" but there isn't one showing, you must enable mixed content.
Here is a screencast to walk you through it with Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer.
