*Service Credit Opportunity !*
Did you know that socks are the most requested, yet least donated items to shelters? Through February 17, 2023, The Jr. Giving Circle will be collecting donations that will support the Staten Island community. Please bring NEW socks to 213A during Advisory.

Paulo's 1st Read-A-Thon
In partnership with our outstanding PTA, our school will be engaging in our first Read-A-Thon from February 6th – 17th. The Read-A-Thon is intended to encourage reading across the school, while serving as the first fundraiser for our “Cool the School” initiative. We will be raising funds to add much needed air conditioning to our gymnasium, weight room and fitness room, and we will be kicking off the initiative with the Read-A-Thon.
Much like a Walk-A-Thon, students can get family and friends to sponsor them and make contributions based upon the amount that they read.
We ask you please encourage your child's participation as students will receive credit for reading they complete in their classes as well as their independent work. Read-A-Thon only has a short two-week window, but if we rally together, this can be an enriching and rewarding experience for the students.
As always, we thank you in advance and hope you encourage your child to participate in the Read-A-Thon which not only supports students' enrichment but will in turn also help Cool the School!

BECAUSE WE CAN BASKETBALL CLINIC THURS. FEB. 23RD 9 AM TO 3 PM
We are excited to team up with Because We Can Sports to offer our students, both boys and girls, another opportunity to attend a basketball clinic on Thursday, February 23rd. The clinic will be exclusively for IS 75 and IS 7 students and run from 9am to 3pm.
Use the link below to register or go to the Payment & Registration page at IS75.org.

Paulo Basketball Clinic - February 2023
Please Note:
1. The basketball clinic will take place at the IS 75 gym on Thursday, February 23rd, from 9am until 3pm.
2. The clinic will be run by Because We Can Sports.
3. The cost of the clinic is $50 (plus a transaction fee).
4. If registering multiple students, please fill out a separate form for each child.
5. Pizza will be provided for lunch. If your child can not have pizza we ask that they bring a bagged lunch.
6. Appropriate attire is required for all physical activity programs. Participants must come prepared for the clinic with athletic attire, sneakers, and water or Gatorade to stay hydrated.
7. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent. Unfortunately, MetroCards cannot be provided. We would appreciate all students leaving the program promptly at 3:00. Students will be dismissed from the front entrance.
8. Please note that participation in any recreation program is contingent upon behavior and overall academic standing. Factors that influence a child’s overall standing include attendance and lateness, class performance, behavior, homework, effort, attitude, and grades. A conduct grade of N, for any reason, may be grounds for exclusion.
Mr. Mariconda

SECOND MARKING PERIOD REPORT CARDS & PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
The date for the winter 2023 Parent/Teacher Conferences at Paulo is:
Thursday, March 16th (12:20 – 2:20 pm & 4:30 -7:30 pm)

The 2nd Marking Period Report Card was distributed on the NYC Schools accounts on Monday February 6th.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ARISTA
The mission of the Paulo Arista Society is to make the qualities of scholarship, citizenship, and service function as a beacon of excellence for all members of the school community. To communicate this mission, Paulo has made the requirements for inclusion in Arista (8th grade), Junior Arista (7th grade) and Honor Society (6th grade) as follows:
1. Scholarship – Academic average of at least 91.00% in each marking period with no grade, in any subject, below 80 or “S”. Please note that a course grade of 79 or lower precludes a student from Arista.
2. Citizenship – No citizenship grade below “S” (Satisfactory) in any marking period.
3. Service – The attainment of at least 25 service credits per school year.
4. Attendance/Punctuality – Students absent more than 10 days per school year are precluded. Also, students who are picked up early from school five or more times in a given semester are also precluded from this recognition.
Please see the Student Handbook for a more in-depth explanation of criteria for the Paulo Arista Society.
Service Credits
Service credit is a form of school-based volunteer work where students are acknowledged for their meaningful contributions. In-school service can be in the form of classroom monitoring, being a member of a school team, or even just participating in a spirit event.
Students are encouraged to participate in as many activities as possible. School service, partnered with a dedication to their academics, builds a strong foundation for the well-rounded student. Students are afforded opportunities throughout the year to earn these credits. Participation in out-of-school charitable events or organizations does not count for service credits. Participation in said events are recognized separately. Letters of participation in community-based service can be sent in to Mr. Herrmann, who will catalog their efforts and count them toward the Philanthropy Award (given to deserving graduates).

PTA Corner
Next PTA meeting Feb. 14th on Zoom
The PTA Needs your help to ensure the Spring Auction, which is scheduled for Thursday, April 20, 2023 at the Grand Oaks Country Club. We are asking for a voluntary, monetary donation of $10 per family. Funds raised will go towards the purchase of prizes for the auction. We hope to buy big ticket items such as gaming systems, TVs, Mac Products, sports & concert tickets, luxury goods, and more.
In addition to monetary funds, we hope to collect gift card donations. No amount is too small! Gift cards can be sent in with your child in an envelope marked "Auction Gift Card Donation" with your child's name and advisory. Cash/Venmo @IS75PTA are also great ways to donate! Just remember to include your child's info and "Auction Donation" when submitting.
