Brookside School 2018-2019
November Lighthouse Log
We are Thankful for our Brookside Family!
The season for giving and sharing is in full swing at Brookside. It is important to us that we celebrate each day and honor every tradition that represents our diverse community. Our goal is to celebrate the joy of the season and explore themes that are common to all cultures, the importance of family, working for a better life, friendship, use of music to express emotions and celebrate, and importance of contributing to a community.
November brought us a dancer from Ghana, lessons about Science from a young UCLA Scientist, many expressions of gratitude, and a few turkey hats. We also provided 29 turkeys, a dozen bags full of fixings, and 10 full Thanksgiving meals. These donations were made possible from the efforts of our parents and staff.
As we approach winter and become further engulfed in the holidays, I want to wish you a happy start to the season, and assure you that we value and respect all traditions, including the choice to not celebrate. In highlighting common themes we will also provide alternative activities and make our best efforts to meet needs of our diverse community. In everything we do the goal is to teach and learn. We invite you to also participate in teaching your children about your cultural traditions and broaden their understanding by exploring new ones! Together we can make this the season to celebrate our rich diversity.
