# 3rd Grade Stars

## Student Spotlight

In November, we made our class agreement that is pictured below. We are excited to start the new Science Unit. We made our cinnamon rolls project. We had dull words and needed to come up with synonyms to make the word more interesting. They are pictured below. We also made a turkey to share what we are thankful for. Even though we don’t all celebrate Thanksgiving, we are all still thankful. We also had our lockdown drill in November to practice staying safe. We finished Unit 1 for Reading, and also finished our 2nd module of Math. Now we are starting module 3 in Math. We finished our place in our world project that is pictured below. It tells about where we live in the world. We made them for Social Studies and now they are on our lockers along with our turkeys. We hope you learned a lot from our newsletter!

## Math

Module 3: Multiplication and Division with Units of 0, 1, 6–9, and Multiples of 10

This 25-day module builds directly on students’ work with multiplication and division in Module 1. Module 3 extends the study of factors from 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10 to include all units from 0 to 10, as well as multiples of 10 within 100. Similar to the organization of Module 1, the introduction of new factors in Module 3 spreads across topics. This allows students to build fluency with facts involving a particular unit before moving on. The factors are sequenced to facilitate systematic instruction with increasingly sophisticated strategies and patterns.

For Unit 2 in Reading, students will be working on "Determining Importance in Expository Texts." Practice reading and discussing expository texts at home and practice reading strategies learned in class. *Ask your child to find the main idea of text by using boxes and bullets or their hand.

## Science

Bundle 1: Animal Development and Survival

Students have begun a new journey as we explore plant and animal life cycles and animal’s social and group behavior. Our mission is to research an animal and its environment in order to create a diorama showing the plant and animal life cycles and the benefits of the animal living in a group.

Guiding Questions:

1. What is the life cycle of an animal?
2. What is the life cycle of a plant?
3. How does an animal get food and defend itself?
