People who influenced Computing
By: Esme Poore
Ada Lovelace
Ada Lovelace lived in the 19th Century yet she was completely ahead of her time! She had a great love of knowledge especially mathematics and science. She applied her knowledge to try create a counting machine, with Charles Babbage, that was given a set of instructions which made cogs turn and different things happen. Unfortunately she died before this could happen but at least these days with her research we are able to use computers.
Alan Turing
Alan Turing managed to crack the enigma code, which was a way for the Germans to pass information and plans between each other. He definitely helped the allies to win World War Two. Alan Turing was a physician, mathematician and engineer. His machine was called the bombe and it was capable of breaking the enigma messages on an industrial scale.
Tim Berners-Lee
Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989. He was also very selfless in this invention because he made it free meaning most people could use it. He often fights for rights such as privacy, freedom and openness of the web. He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Prize for engineering along with many others. He is very well known in computing and with good reason, if it wasn't for him we wouldn't be able to use the internet as we do today.
