We are Learning

This week, we continued to learn about the different types of figurative language. We reviewed personification and have been working on idioms. The students have been paying attention to figurative language as they read. Also, we have started reading "The Jade Stone", a Chinese folktale. The students have been reading and taking part in a Seesaw activity that ties into figurative language. We will continue to read "The Jade Stone" in the upcoming weeks.

This week we learned that writers can write book reviews to persuade others to read the books they like. We watched a few clips of the television show Reading Rainbow to hear the structure of a book review. We learned that book reviews include the title and author of the book, an introduction, a little bit about the book, and some persuasive tactic to encourage readers to read the book. We learned that we have to be careful to not spoil the ending of the book for the reader. We will continue to write book reviews next week.

This week, we learned the attributes of quadrilaterals. We learned how to identify quadrilaterals and parallelograms. We learned about squares, rectangles, rhombus, trapezoids, and kites. We also began learning how to find the perimeter of a shape. Next week, we will learn how to find the area of a shape.

Social Studies

This week, we learned about supply and demand. We learned that when the supply is low then demand could be high. When supply is high then demand could be low. We learned that when demand is high and supply is low that the price of the good or service could be higher. We also learned that if the supply is high and demand is low that the good or service could go on sale to try to sell the good or service faster.
