Monthly Principal Updates

On a Personal Note...

On a personal note, my husband and I are expecting a baby girl in mid-December. While on maternity leave, a substitute Principal will be assigned to Culbert in my absence. Typically, the substitute Principal is a former retired principal with the experience and background to lead a community in the absence of an administrator. I have been working very closely with the Office of Elementary Education to ensure a successful plan in my absence. Once the substitute Principal has been identified, that information will be communicated to the community and I will work closely with them to also ensure the Culbert community is well taken care of in my absence.

Materials Pick-Up

November 9 will be another materials pick-up. Please find specific information here

Picture orders and picture proofs will be made available during this pick-up.

In addition, certain teachers have materials for pick-up. We do recognize that pick-ups can be hard during the day so teachers are trying to get out as many materials as possible so parents don't have to come each month.

The following teachers will also provide materials for their classroom; Dickson (KG), Clark (Grade 4).

If you did not order pictures or need the proof (it's also provided online) and your child's class isn't listed for materials, you do not need to come to this pick-up.

Schoology Update for Parents

With the first quarter of the school year coming to close, we invite you to learn more about how you can maximize your usage of Schoology and ParentVUE to review your student’s grades, assignments. In addition, you will see how both learning management systems work together to provide families the opportunity to stay engaged in their student’s learning.

Please see this flier as we invite you to attend Session 4 of The Family Room: Grading - How Schoology and ParentVUE Work Together on Wednesday, November 4th at 6 p.m. where experts from the Department of Digital Innovation and Educational Technology will guide families through deeper learning of both ParentVUE and Schoology, and also field family questions about the platforms.

Dreambox Learning

School Counseling Corner

From Ms. Shultz-

In October, your children have been learning about ways to be successful in school. From basic listening skills in Kindergarten to understanding fixed vs growth mindset in the upper grades. Coping skills were discussed and practiced along with requesting help from trusted adults and friends when we’re frustrated by a challenge.

In November, we’ll begin learning about bully prevention. Your children will learn a definition of bullying, feelings of the bystanders and of the target and finally ways to prevent bullying. When they encounter a situation that makes them uncomfortable, they will be taught to say an assertive “stop”. If that is not successful, they walk away or ignore the behavior. If both of those are unsuccessful, they are to “talk” to the closest adult and ask for help. For additional information on this topic a great resource is https://www.stopbullying.gov/resources/facts

At KWC, we model and support a climate of respect and kindness. This is a cornerstone of all of the classroom counseling lessons and is the foundation of bullying prevention.

Updates from the PTO

We want to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to all the families that donated during our Ca$h 4 Croc$ fundraiser! 100% of your donations go towards supporting our children and school and we can’t wait to get started! 😊

We are building a new PTO website that is currently under construction. PTO information will no longer be available as part of the LCPS KWC website starting November 1st. We will continue to communicate through our FB page (Ken Culbert PTO), room parents, and the school to keep everyone up-to-date in the meantime.
