NEWS FROM THE NURSE

Guidance from the health department has recently changed regarding students with possible COVID symptoms. An alternate diagnosis is no longer accepted to return to school unless accompanied by a COVID test. A child must also be vomiting and diarrhea free for 48 hours now before returning to school per the health department. Fever guidelines have not changed, still 24 hours fever free.

Testing: If there is known COVID exposure or travel to areas with high rates of COVID transmission, an NAAT or PCR test is needed, otherwise an antigen is usually acceptable. If a test is pending or a household member has symptoms of COVID 19 and has not yet been tested, please keep children home until test results are received. If an antigen and PCR test are both done, please wait until results of both tests are in before sending your child to school. If anyone tests positive in your home, please notify the school. A handout (see the link in the next paragraph) has been developed by the health department and may be a helpful reference. If your child will be out due to isolation or quarantine, you are encouraged to communicate that to your child's teacher.

COVID 19 symptoms per the Illinois Department of Public Health: Fever (100.4°F or higher), new onset of moderate to severe headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, new loss of sense of taste or smell, fatigue from unknown cause, muscle or body aches from unknown cause. These are the symptoms that may be used to exclude students, but this is not a comprehensive list of COVID-19 symptoms. A student may be excluded when suspicion of COVID is high due to other symptoms.

DAVIS FALL PARTY AND COSTUME INFO

Fall parties are right around the corner and we would like you to be aware of our plans and expectations so that you can help your student to prepare. Our celebration is scheduled for Friday, October 29, 2021. The parade will run outside from 1:35 pm to 1:45 pm. Students will exit door 10 and walk around to door 11. Parents may line up along 7th Street and Horne Street outside of the cones and watch the parade.

  • Classroom parties will run from 1:45 pm - 2:35 pm.

  • Room Parents will be allowed to go to classrooms at 1:15 pm for party set up and to assist with costumes after they have checked in at the office.

*If inclement weather, there will not be a parade.

Costume & Party Guidelines:

  • Students should bring costumes in a bag. Costumes must be appropriate for school. Costumes should not be violent or scary in nature. No blood, guts, or weapons. No masks. Make-up is discouraged because it is difficult to apply. No bare midriffs or scant clothing. Students may be asked to remove or put away any parts of costumes based on teacher judgment. Above all, they should be easy to put on and take off.

  • Room parents who are assisting with the parties should not wear disguises that would make it difficult to recognize them as a safe person.

  • Only room parents may attend the classroom parties

  • Room parents can provide treat bags to be sent home with students. No food will be eaten during the party.

Room Parent Guidelines:

  • No more than 2 parents per classroom. Sign-up for room parents is through our PTO.

  • Present proof of full vaccination OR a negative COVID-19 test result from within the last 72 hours

  • Wear a proper mask at all times when inside

  • Complete the D303 volunteer form

  • Work with the classroom teacher on activities/games for the party.

DAVIS VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION

Davis will be observing Veterans Day on Thursday, November 11th. We will put together a video, similar to last year and will record a presentation that we will send out to families and that students will watch at 9 a.m. on Veterans Day. Although we cannot have guests inside our building, we would love to celebrate our Veterans with a drive through celebration where they can come and pick up a small gift as a token of our appreciation between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m.

Please fill out this form to share pictures of your veteran or if they are attending the drive through. You can also call the main office at (331) 228-2200 to RSVP.
