Smith Family Newsletter

We believe in the power of school and family partnerships.

Message from Ms. Rivera

Welcome to the October Edition of the Smith Family Newsletter. October is such an exciting time of year. We are getting closer to the holidays and the weather is getting beautiful! October is also a great time for us because that is when our true partnerships with parents come to life during our Academic Parent Teacher Team meetings. More information is below, but this is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet your child's teacher, meet other parents, and learn strategies and receive resources to help your child at home.

As parents, you are your child's first teacher, and we need to team up in order to help our kids grow to their highest potential. We will have lots of involvement activities coming up. Thank you to those of you who were able to attend the Campus Performance meetings this week and to the volunteers we already have coming in. Our PTO is also hard at work, so I urge you to get involved as much as you can. We look forward to seeing you at our events!

If you have any questions or feedback, contact me at, visit our website, and follow us on Twitter @CedricSmithElem.

Academic Parent Teacher Teams

Its time for our Academic Parent Teacher Team (APTT) meetings!

Unlike a traditional conference, the APTT meeting is a group parent meeting where you get the opportunity to collaborate with other parents, learn about how your child is doing in relation to the class, learn new skills to support learning at home, and set goals for your child. You can learn more about APTT by clicking here, and I want to emphasize that this does not take the place of an individual conference, which you can schedule at any time. All meetings are 5:30 to 6:30, and the dates are as follows:

October 12 - 3rd and 4th

October 20th - PK and Kinder

October 21st - 1st and 2nd

Childcare and dinner will be provided. We hope to see you there!

PTO News

Please join us for our first big PTO event on Thursday, October 28th from 5:00 to 7:00. The PTO will be hosting a Trunk or Treat along with food, a bounce house, and a haunted hallway. This will be in conjunction with Raising Readers, which is our monthly family library night. Click the attachments below for more information.

Free and Reduced Lunch

Although meals are free this year, all qualifying families still need to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch application by clicking here. Free and reduced lunch numbers are important because they allow our school to get extra funding for all students, hire more teachers and support staff, and so much more.
