Earthquakes PBL

The Earthquakes PBL was about building a new home for Tony Stark that can withstand seismic waves and strong earthquakes. The driving question was: How can we, as structural engineers, construct, a two story house in CA for Tony Stark that will withstand seismic activity? My design for Tony Stark is a two story huse that constists of dampers (which are used to absorb the shock of the earthquake), base isolaters that allow the house to bend and flex, and tension ties (ties the floors and celings together). Flexible pipes are also used to reduce damage, bricks as the foundation, and lastly wood (for holding up the structure and keeping the house from toppling over). By completing this project, I learned that earthquakes can be very devestating and we can't prevent it, but we can be prepared.

30 Hands Project

During my project of 30 Hands, I learn all about global warming, the greegouse effect, how to prevent it from happening, and much more. What I enjoyed about the project was that everyone had to do one seperate project that and DIY slides=creative. The project is fun and teaches me all about the importance of the earth.

Invention Convention

The enviromental problem that I am solving with our invention is pollution. My invention helps to solve the air pollution by driving the car, it sucks up all the pollution, CO2, and dust and releases fresh clean air.

Extra Credit

My personal favorite unit that we covered in science is Unit 5: The Atmosphere. This is because I enjoyed learning what I can do to prevent bad things from happening to the armosphere. I learned all about the different layers and their traits, Global climate change, global warming, greenhouse gases, and hot and cold movements. My favorite lab is probalbly the mini water cycle lab I is fun to watch the water evaporate and the sediment it leaves behind. My favorite activitities are the Atmosphere Demos (my favorite one is Air Takes Up Space). I love magic tricks and science, and this demo had both.
