The Riverwood Review

5th Edition - 2022-2023 School Year!

A Message from Principal Smith

Dear Riverwood Families,

I hope you enjoyed Open House last Wednesday as much as I did. The energy throughout the building was high as we convened for the first in-person Open House since 2019! Thank you to our teachers and staff for staying late to present their plans for the school year and academic expectations for each class.

We are delighted to congratulate the following eleven Riverwood seniors who were recognized as "commended" students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program: Marilyn Abney, Jacob Beldick, Noah Brager, Nathaniel Clough, Pratham Dalvi, Jacob Fernandez, Laura Kelley, Michael Lee, Noah Piontek, Morgan Purefoy and Gabriel Raffington. These students earned this distinction based on their junior year PSAT scores. We were able to assemble nine of eleven candidates this morning for a quick celebration of their accomplishment (please see photo below).

Progress reports for the first 4.5 weeks of school are available for all students on Infinite Campus. I encourage you to sit down with your student to review this and all progress reports. The next progress report will be available at the nine-week mark.

Fall is a busy season at Riverwood. We are proud to host several upcoming events including College and Career night, Wednesday, September 28; the Drama Department’s production of ‘Lend me a Tenor’ September 29 – October 1; and of course, the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, October 22.

As always, please visit our website for more details about these events and other school news.

Have a great weekend,

Kindra Smith

Congratulations to our New Riverwood National Honor Society Inductees!

The newest members of the Riverwood NHS were formally inducted at a ceremony in the Riverwood Auditorium on Sept. 21, 2022. Principal Smith welcomed the inductees and their family members in attendance, followed by an introduction of this year's NHS officers: Marilyn Abney, president; Noah Brager, vice president; Tai Freeman, secretary; and Jamie Cohen, treasurer. The inductees then recited the NHS pledge and the audience heard inspiring messages about service and leadership from Mr. Joel Kadish, a social studies teacher at Riverwood, and Rep. Stacey Evans, of the 57th district of Georgia. The evening concluded with a brief reception. NHS members will have their first general meeting on Oct. 3, 2022, at 7:45 am in the Riverwood Auditorium. Members can find more information on the NHS Teams page. If you have questions about the National Honor Society, please contact Dr. Stephanie Batcos at

Homecoming Dance - Ticket Information

  • All students (9-12) may purchase dance tickets for $20 cash or check (no card).
  • Dance tickets may only be purchased by Riverwood students during their assigned lunch period and not by parents.
  • Dance tickets will be sold during lunch in the Cafeteria starting October 7th for Seniors/Dual Enrollment and then beginning October 13th for all students.
  • Ticket sales will end either October 21st (D-lunch) or when the maximum number of 800 tickets have been sold—whichever occurs first.
  • There will be no ticket sales at the door the night of the dance.
  • Other than buying one additional ticket for a date, Riverwood students must purchase their own dance tickets (no guest tickets will be sold during lunch).
  • Students will be required to present their physical dance ticket for entry into the dance—a sales record will not be available at the door for students with lost tickets.
  • Tickets are non-transferable, meaning students are forbidden from selling their ticket to another student.
  • All Riverwood students and their guests from other high schools are subject to Fulton Schools’ student code of conduct.
  • Homecoming is from 8:00pm to 11:00pm and all students must arrive by 10:00pm—no students will be admitted into the dance after that time.
  • No large bags or outside food/drink will be allowed at the dance.
  • There will be no reentry, meaning that students may not come back to the dance after they exit the lobby past the ticket table.
  • Students are responsible for their shoes, purses, jackets, and other personal items during all times at the dance.
  • Homecoming is over at 11:00pm & students must arrange for transportation home well in advance in order to be picked up on time.

Guest Tickets for Students From Other High Schools -There will be an extremely limited number of guest tickets available. Therefore, Riverwood students should not invite a guest from another high school until after they have purchased a guest ticket. Please do not disappoint your guest by creating an unnecessary and avoidable crisis by asking them to Riverwood’s Homecoming without first possessing a ticket for them to attend the dance. -After the school day on September 21st , guest tickets will be available from OSP on Riverwood’s website for a total of $60 ($40 for one guest ticket and $20 for the accompanying Riverwood student’s ticket). After purchasing from OSP, these tickets will be available for pickup from Mr. Kadish before/after school in room 3224 only in exchange for a printed, paper copy of the Homecoming Guest Permission form (available from Riverwood’s website). Riverwood will administratively delete/refund your OSP purchase if you do not submit the required paperwork to Mr. Kadish by October 20thmaking you ineligible to attend the dance. If you purchase more than one guest ticket, Riverwood will administratively delete/refund both of your OSP transactions—also making you ineligible to attend the dance.

Don’t wait till the last minute! Mr. Kadish (classroom 3224) would be more than happy to help you plan ahead so you don’t have any disappointments buying your Homecoming tickets!
