Updates from Dr. Bray and Mr. Ajamian
Our staff has worked incredibly hard this summer to prepare a wonderful year of learning for our students. Our Building Services team continues to make our school sparkle and be a welcoming place for learning. Our leadership team is constantly looking to improve teaching and learning for all students. They have done some heavy lifting while planning for this year.
Mrs. Murphy is enjoying her time with her new baby and family, but misses our students and staff. She is looking forward to returning on October 31, 2019. We are very appreciative of the work she has done in preparing our school for an incredible year.
Welcome New Families
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
Dismissal begins at 3:50 p.m. If you are picking up your child, please plan to be at school no later than 3:50 p.m. Walkers and Car Riders are dismissed from their classrooms. Students exit the school through the door nearest to the playground equipment. Staff members and school safety patrols supervise students during dismissal. Parents who are meeting their walkers are welcome to gather on the blacktop area to collect their child(ren). Car Riders will exit the blacktop area through the gate to enter their cars. Students will not be permitted to walk past the flagpole to get into their cars.

Volunteer Training
We love our volunteers! Seven Locks is always looking for parents/grandparents volunteers to share their expertise and experiences with our students. There are many ways that parents can volunteer to support our school. Room parents and teachers will help coordinate opportunities to volunteer within the classroom.
All volunteers should attend a brief SLES Volunteer Training. Volunteer Training will include information about Board of Education policy, student confidentiality, emergency preparedness and school procedures. Training for room parents will be offered during the room parent meeting. Additional parents who want to volunteer are encouraged to attend one of the following trainings: September 13, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., September 16, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. and October 1, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. Parents who are not able to attend and want to volunteer within the school building during the student day, will need to review the materials and complete the volunteer contract prior to attending a field trip or volunteering in the classroom. After the training sessions, materials will be available on the school website for parents. It should only take a few minutes to review these materials. Parents who volunteer regularly are encouraged to attend an in-person training in order to ask specific questions.
Child Abuse and Neglect Training
Once you access your account, you will be able to complete the training and have a record of your completion recorded in the training course. As of July 1, 2019, confirmation of CAN completion will be noted with a 100% in your course grades. Training needs to be completed at least once every three years to continue volunteering. Any volunteers trained during or before the 2015-2016 school year must complete this training again before volunteering with students this year. If you need MyMCPS access information, please contact Linda Kurinsky or Eileen Carbonell in the main office.
Thank You
I want to take a minute to thank our PTA executive committee as they have spent countless hours preparing for the year and helping us transition to Seven Locks. A huge thank you to Neal Orringer (PTA President), and Aby Filomeno (PTA Vice President) and Kathleen Tayman (PTA Vice President).
