Vladimir Ipatieff

Vladimir was born in Moscow on November 21, 1867. (But according to the Russian calendar he was born on November 9.)
Biography
He attended a military academy and graduated in 1884 from the third Moscow Military Gymnasium. World War I Ipatieff became chairman of the Czarist regime's chemical committee. he went on to get a doctorate from St. Petersburg University in 1907, he also taught chemistry at St. Petersburg University. After the revolution he stayed in the Soviet Union where he found the High Pressure Institute in 1927. In 1939 he was elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences.

Isoprene
Ipatieff synthesized and proved the structure of isoprene, the basic unit of rubber.
Ipatieff Bomb
To begin his High pressure experiment, he designed a novel autoclave, sealed by a gasket made of copper.
Death
Vladimir died in Chicago on 29 February of 1952. Northwestern University dedicated a laboratory in his honor.
