What animals are felines ?
any of 37 cat species that among others include the cheetah, puma, jaguar, leopard, lion, lynx, tiger, and domestic cat. Cats are native to almost every region on Earth, with the exception of Australia and Antarctica.
The leopard
- Leopards are astoundingly strong. They are pound for pound the strongest of the big cats. They are able to climb trees, even when carrying heavy prey, and often choose to rest on tree branches during the day.
- One reason why leopards sometimes take their prey up in the trees is to ensure lions or hyenas can’t steal them.
The lynx
- These unique-looking tufts on the ears enhance hearing. Thanks to excellent sense of hearing, lynx can easily locate the prey.
- Lynx is a carnivore (meat-eater). It usually hunts small mammals, such as snowshoe hare, mice and squirrels, and birds. Larger species of lynx often hunt bigger animals, such as deer.
The black panther
- Melanism is the name of the dark color pigmentation mutation in a jaguar or leopard that cause the fur to be blackish, it occurs in about 6% of the population
- Black panthers are great swimmers and are one of the strongest tree climbing big cats, often pouncing on prey from a tree, they are capable of leaping up to 20 feet to catch their prey which includes medium sized animals like deer and monkeys and smaller rabbits and birds.

- Almost all cats feed on small mammals and birds or on large herbivores such as deer and various types of antelope. Most hunting is done using vision and hearing. Typically solitary while hunting, a cat steals up to its prey on padded feet. Long, sensitive whiskers on the face aid the cat during the stalking of the prey by brushing against obstacles and enabling the cat to avoid making excessive noise. When close to its prey, the cat overwhelms it in a short, quick rush or leap.
