Last week of school!

A message from Mrs. Dial

We have made it to the last week of school! I look back upon the past two months and simply cannot believe what has transpired. Never in my 27 years of being an educator did I ever anticipate our current situation. While it has not been easy, I can honestly say how proud I am of our students, our staff, our district and our families for making the most of a very challenging situation. This week we are honoring parents and guardians who have been our partners in teaching and learning with special Twitter shout outs. Be on the lookout for Twitter posts this week with the hashtag #thankaDVparent. It is just one small way that we can let our wonderful families know that we could not have done this without you!

I know that you must have lots of questions about this last week of school. I have tried to capture as many as I can in this newsletter. If you have other questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your child's teacher. We are here to help!

I wish you all a wonderful and safe summer and I truly look forward to when we are all back together on campus again.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Dial

What is the schedule for this last week of school?

Monday-Wednesday are normal days for Zoom meetings. Thursday is considered a "half day" so there is a modified Zoom schedule. We encourage you to have your children log on this last day so that all teachers and students can have one last connection before summer break. Our teachers are planning fun activities all week long so keep logging on!

Thursday schedule:

Kinder 8-8:30

1st 8:30-9

2nd 9-9:30

3rd 9:30-10

4th 10:00-10:30

5th 10:30-11:00

6th 11:00-11:30

When can I pick up my student's personal items?

Student item pickup is happening this week!

- Tuesday 7 am- 10 am

- Wednesday 2-5 pm

Parents/guardians (please leave children at home, if possible) will enter the gym gate and proceed around the building to the west entrance. Once inside you will receive a bag of your child's items from a bin. You will also see designated areas to pick up medication from Nurse Penny, drop off band equipment/library books or pick up/purchase yearbooks. You are welcome to come during whatever time works best for you.

We will ask that you move as quickly as you can through the areas and exit through the east door. All CDC guidelines will be followed and we thank you in advance for helping us to keep everyone safe.

Big picture

Wait- I can still get a yearbook?

Yes! Fortunately we purchased more books than we sold so we do have extras. You can purchase a yearbook for 20$ from Miss Alex in the gym on student item pickup day. You will not want to miss out on the books- they are so cute! The cover was designed by one of our own students, Kaitlyn, and she she did a great job!

My child borrowed a computer from the district. Does it need to be turned in now?

That depends. If you are returning to Sunrise (or another DVUSD schoool) you DO NOT need to return the computer now. You can keep it over the summer and continue learning via the sites provided. If you are leaving DVUSD then the computer needs to be returned during student item pickup this week. Please note that the computer will only work with a DVUSD login so it will not work if you are not registered as a student in the district.

Is there a way to give the district feedback about the last two months of school?

Yes! We are grateful for your patience and support with "Home Learning," and we thank you for partnering with us during the last quarter of the 2019-2020 school year. We understand you had to quickly adjust to an online learning environment for your child and balance school tasks with your own responsibilities. We would like to know how we can improve in case we need to move forward with "Home Learning" again sometime in the future. Please take a couple of minutes to give us your feedback on our survey at this link: https://url.dvusd.org/9685658f. This survey will close at the end of the day on Friday, May 22.

Again, we thank you in advance for taking time to provide us with important feedback. Your opinion is important to us. It helps guide future planning and assists us in understanding how well we are meeting the needs of our community.

Can my child submit late work this week?

Yes! All work will be accepted through Wednesday at 3:00 pm. In fact, we highly encourage you check in with your child to find out if he/she has turned everything in.

Can my child's grade be lower than he had in Q3?

No! Our district has committed to not having a child's grades be any lower than what he/she had at the end of quarter 3. This means that teachers will be manually overriding grades Wednesday evening if they are, in fact, lower. Of course feel free to reach out to your child's teacher with any questions or concerns about grades.

How will we get report cards?

Quarter 4 grades can be viewed through your child's Powerschools account. If you do not have access to the account, please email Miss Janet at janet.boehland@dvusd.org and she can help get you set up. Quarter 4 grades are finalized on Friday so be watching for final grades after that.

Is registration for next year still taking place?

Yes! Registration is currently online so please visit this site for more information: https://www.dvusd.org/registration

Can I still apply for free and reduced lunch for next year?

Yes! Check this site for more info: https://secure.ezmealapp.com/ApplicationScreen.aspx

Is there a way to enroll my kindergarten child at Sunrise right now?
