Weekly Newsletter- 6th Grade
September 13th-17th
Reminders for This Week
It was so nice seeing some of you at our virtual back-to-school night -- thank you for joining us!
Just a reminder ... If your child is participating in band or strings this year, band meets at 1:45 on A and C days and strings will meet at 1:45 on B and D days. We will try to note band/strings days weekly in the specials schedule area below.
Please send a reusable water bottle to school with your child. An extra mask in backpacks is helpful too, especially on hotter days or PE days. If your child has not brought headphones or earbuds for personal use, we're finding those helpful and will begin them daily with online textbooks soon.
There is no school this Friday, September 17th -- it is a Professional Learning Day.
September 13th-17th Learning
We began Dibels reading tests last week and will finish these this week. In 6th grade Dibels testing consists of measuring oral reading fluency by listening to students read and retell 3 passages for one minute each. This is pretty quick and easy for individual students, but it takes some time to listen to all 20 students in the class! This will complete our first round of required district math and reading assessments.
Math with Mr. Bush and Mrs. Seyer- Students are working through ratio lessons with Mr. Bush and Mrs. Seyer and we're using a new program, ixl, to work through skills independently for a few minutes each day. The priority standard for this first module is: Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
Writing and Social Studies with Ms. Kohrs- For grammar this week, we'll learn about run-on sentences and comma splices. We'll also complete a few writing projects to show our understanding of early civilizations. During social studies time, we'll continue to learn about Ancient Mesopotamia.
Reading with Mrs. Logan- Please see the weekly vocabulary and spelling words below. We'll take a test on both of these this Thursday (no school on Friday).
*Note: the spelling skill is incorrect on the form below. The skill is compound words.
