The Spencer Scoop
Spencer Elementary - April 9, 2020 (Thursday Edition)
Notes From the Office
Dear Spencer Families,
While there are still so many questions regarding this school year, we do have some answers.
We will be continuing to adapt and modify our routines to support our students and families.
As we learn more, we will continue to share it with you.
This week our teachers have been busy working with their grades/departments and learning about online learning. We are working on how to make this as smooth and feasible for our students and families as possible. We know many of you are working from home while trying to help manage and navigate your child’s schooling needs. We are all learning how to balance this new normal together, and we will be here to support it.
Starting the week of April 13, our teachers will be communicating and setting up structures that will identify student and family connection, engagement, and needs, as well as prepare to
advance student learning. Our goal is to have some online learning to occur the week of the 20th. These first lessons will be developed to support students as they learn to navigate the online tools that we have for them.
We will have more details regarding our online learning schedules and support coming soon. The district's plan has been submitted, and we are waiting for approval.
To this end, our goals for the remainder of this school year are as follows:
● All students have a predictable space to connect with teachers/class to meet their individual
and social-emotional needs.
● All students have opportunities for continued learning that focuses on Essential Learnings and minimizes instructional loss.
● Students and families are given predictable routines and structures to ensure they stay
connected to schools and learning.
If your family has technology concerns to be able to participate in an online learning environment, please go to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdg3NoZA-Un4mwPqAe2JYWUIb-bwXAJ9nzzHox_eJ3wWBmOow/viewform?usp=sf_link, which is the link to the original technology survey that offered assistance.
Please focus on you and your family. Stay healthy, and know we are here to help.
We miss all of you, your smiles, and the daily laughter terribly.
Be Well,
B. Renner
BHS Lending a Hand
A student from BHS created a game for us. It's just amazing what our students can do!
We wanted to make you aware of something that our daughter, Lauren, did during this “time away” from Brighton High School. Using the skills learned from time spent with Mrs. Costa (Advanced Placement Computer class and Girls Who Code Club), Lauren initiated, created and coded a computer game all by herself. She wanted to do this so that young kids could have a little safe fun during the next few days while maintaining “social distancing.”
We were hoping that you would take a look at it and maybe even find a way to make it available to all elementary-age children. It is a free, family-friendly computer game about finding hidden eggs.
Here is the link to her game, “Eggcellent Fun Inside”:

(It was designed to be best enjoyed using a computer instead of a mobile device).
Message From the Media Center
Hello Spencer Roadrunners,
I am very excited to share a new program called Flipgrid. I just started a new Flipgrid for us to share what we are reading. I miss seeing you all in the school library. Go to https://flipgrid.com/9772ca36 and put in this code adams0583 and you then click the big green PLUS sign and share what you have been reading. If you click on my picture you can hear what I am reading right now. This is only for us Roadrunners so no worries about it being shared anywhere else. TEACHERS & STAFF if you would also like to let us know what you are reading please join the fun. Hope to hear from many of our families. ~Mrs. Adams
Below you will also find storytime with Mrs. Adams. Since we are not together for library enjoy this read aloud.
