GES 4th Grade Newsletter

Your inside scoop to ALL things 4th grade!

August 28th-Sept. 1st

We're off to a great start!

What a great first week! The best part of our job is getting to know your kids. Our first week was just as exciting for us as it was for them! Our students met new people, built relationships, and became a school family. They are doing a great job remembering class routines and learning the 4th grade schedule. It's going to be a great year!

We still need volunteers for help in our classrooms during Reading and Math Workshops, with the WOW (World of Wonder) Garden, and classroom readers. We are looking for people who have some free time during the day each week to spend some time working one on one or in small groups with our eager young learners. It could be as little as one hour per week. Please contact your child's homeroom teacher so we can find a time that works for you. Sign up sheets will also be available at Parent Information Night. All classroom and field trip volunteers must read the Volunteer Handbook and complete the online background check form Volunteer Background Check. This must be completed annually.

ClassDojo for Specials

Last week you should have received a letter inviting you to join ClassDojo. If you haven't signed up yet, please consider joining. This is a digital tool used by PE, music, and art to communicate with our students and parents. Each child receives a unique code created for them. This code is private and viewed only by you, your child, and their specials' teachers. We strongly encourage you to join, so that you can receive immediate feedback on your child's behaviors while attending our classes. While we do occasionally note positive behaviors we see during our classes, it is used mostly to communicate areas of concern. Our hopes are that you might check ClassDojo daily with your child to offer compliments on a job well done, or visit with them about noted behaviors, and provide counsel to them should this situation arise again in the future. This is by far the best tool we have found to use as a team to help redirect unproductive behaviors prior to them escalating. Thank you for your support in working with us to help your child succeed in this new year. If you have any questions, please contact our Learning Leader, Michelle Basil, for more information.

Important Information

1. Your child may bring a healthy snack each day. This could include items such as cheese, fruit, or vegetables. Sweet snacks are not allowed. Please do not send items that require a spoon or other utensil for snack time. Also, your child is allowed to bring a water bottle to school. Due to nut allergies, please do not send items containing nuts for snack time; however, they will be fine for the lunchroom.
2. Student birthdays may be celebrated with pencils and other small items, but food may not be sent in due to district policy. Book donations to the classroom or library may be made in honor of your child's special day. Birthdays will be recognized in the classroom at the end of the day.
3. Your child will need a pair of headphones to use with his/her iPad in class each day. Please label them and send these to class as soon as you can.

Parent Information Night

Parent Information Night will be held Thurs. Aug. 31st. There will be two sessions, one from 6:00 - 6:30pm and one from 6:30 - 7pm. Team teachers will meet together so parents will only need to attend one session, allowing the opportunity to attend a different grade level session if necessary. Mrs. Maddux will be leading a GT Parent Information Night from 7-7:30 pm in the learning commons.
