Week 30 Learning Targets
Language Arts- This week in LA we are starting our Night at the Museum project. We will be spending the next few weeks’ research different events that took place over the 20th Century. We will be working in groups to make a museum display for the events. In the end each group will present their project to the classes.
Math- We will be reviewing the traditional subtraction algorithm this week. Part of our focus will be writing multi-step subtraction problems and implementing the algorithm to find a solution. As the week progresses, we will move on to explaining the process of multiplying fractions. The students will use a number line and an area model to help them explain their thinking. It is our expectation that the students will look at the numbers and determine what they know about the question as they attempt to solve it mentally, before they ever pick up a pencil. REMEMBER, THURSDAY IS THE FIELD TRIP TO THE OLC, STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR PANTS AND CLOSED TOED SHOES. LET YOUR TEACHER KNOW IF YOUR CHILD WILL BE ORDERING A SACK LUNCH FROM THE CAFETERIA.
Science- Your 5th grader has a field trip to NWISD Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) on Thursday, April 30th. Permission slips must be turned in, and appropriate clothes must be worn or your child may not attend the field trip. Dress Code Expectations are: long pants or jeans, old closed toe shoes, long socks, hat/ and or sunscreen, bug spray, and a coat if it is rainy. Your child will also begin an inquiry based project on a topic of their interest. This project is expected to last through the end of May.
Dismissal
NEW! We will no longer call students out of class after 2:30pm for early dismissal. We need to make sure each child is getting home safely and after 2:30pm teachers are working to ensure this happens. Thank you for your cooperation in helping all Hawks get home safely.
ATTENTION CAR RIDERS: You must have the GREEN pick up card on your dashboard when picking up your child. If you choose to park and walk up, you must have your pick up card with you. The safety of your children is our top priority. Thank you for your cooperation.
