Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
October 12, 2018
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
This school year seems to be moving fast. We are nearing completion of many fall activities, perhaps the most notable upcoming activity is Parent/Teacher Conferences as referenced on the schedule that follows. I strongly believe that your student(s) academic success is determined by the support parents and other family members provide for all school activities! Parent/Teacher Conferences are one way for parents to monitor student’s classroom success. Perhaps reviewing your student’s attendance, completed homework and current grades in the Parent Portal prior to the conference will be beneficial in your discussion with the classroom teacher.
This week your Board of Education initiated a significant step to fulfill a promise of the recently passed Proposition K. The Board approved hiring Mr. George Garner as our Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Mr. Garner is a Fulton High School graduate with significant Social Work experience and leadership. In addition to FPS responsibilities, he will continue his association with William Woods University as an Associate Professor of Social Work. In addition to Mr. Garner, we continue to advertise the Home-School Liaison position. The Home-School Liaison application process is on the District website, with applications accepted until the position is filled.
Note the Highway 54 Bowl information that follows. This year our partnership with the Callaway Chamber of Commerce is adding an opportunity for local businesses to be highlighted prior to the game. Their tents will be set up until 7 p.m. so you can explore how each business contributes to the community prior to the game.
Thank you for sending great kids to work with. We sincerely appreciate your support!
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Highway 54 Bowl
The Fulton Hornets kick-off tonight, October 12, vs the Mexico Bulldogs to culminate a 98-year rivalry between the two schools known as the 54 Bowl. The two NCMC schools battle annually on the gridiron, and the winner earns bragging rights and the 54 Bowl sign. The sign remains in the school of the winning team each year. Mexico and Fulton have been playing this rivalry since 1920, and Friday night will commence the 127th meeting between the two schools. Fulton leads the series with 63 wins while Mexico has 57 wins; there have been six ties.
The Highway 54 Bowl will continue in grand fashion with the showcase of 10 area businesses prior to the game. As members of the Chamber of Commerce, these businesses will have information and giveaways for all.
The Highway 54 Bowl will also be the KRCG Game of the Week.
Come out and join in on the fun! Game time is 7 p.m.
