Options Open Zero, Fifth Block, and Online Pilot Information
We have late breaking exciting news about our course offerings for next school year. We now have all of that information condensed into a one-pager and an FAQ posted on the District website: http://www.madisoncity.k12.al.us/?DivisionID=7842&DepartmentID=7748&SubDepartmentID=10293&ToggleSideNav
Options Open is the Madison City Schools name for our 2015-2016 pilot program of online, zero and fifth block course options. You will have the opportunity to ‘open’ up your schedule to new and unique ‘options’ with blended learning, online courses, and an early start (zero block) or late start and end to your school day (5th block)…your ‘options’ are ‘open’! If you are interested in amending your original schedule request to include one of these exciting options, you will have until Monday morning to do so. This is an extension of the original registration deadline which closes today at 5:00pm.
In order to add the registration request, please record the following on a piece of paper and return it to your second block teacher on Monday, April 19th:

**Please keep in mind that space is limited for these courses in the Pilot year.

Congratulations to Jonathan Hampton
Jonathan Hampton won the Huntsville Literary Association's Young Writers Contest!!!! He will receive his award and prize money at a May 3rd ceremony on the UAH campus. We are so proud and happy for this outstanding young man.

Congratulations to the following artists on having their artwork selected for exhibit in Panoply 2015, the exhibit will run from April 24 - 26 located in downtown Huntsville at Big Spring Park.
Alabama Pharmacy Announces Winners of the 5th Annual Poison Prevention Art Contest
DMS has four State Winners! Congratulations to the artists listed below, they achieved a clean sweep for ALL winning positions! Ange long was our National winner last year and now Victoria Lee’s art work is on its way to compete at National level. J

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Alabama Pharmacy Association (APA) held a Poison Prevention Art Contest in an effort to increase medication safety and poison prevention awareness among children. “Poisonings Span A Lifetime” was the theme of the art contest. APA members posted contest flyers in their workplaces and APA staff emailed the contest flyer to teachers across the state of Alabama to encourage participation.
Over 188 entries from public and private schools all over the state, including home-schooled students, were submitted for consideration. Grand Prize winners will receive a $100 gift certificate, Second Place winners will receive a $60 gift certificate, and Third Place winners will receive a $40 gift certificate. Those Finalists who did not place in the top three will receive honorable mentions. The Grand Prize winners will also be entered in the National Poison Prevention Art Contest.

Rosie's International Services strives to promote diversity and inclusion within the community and one way we achieve this goal is through Ethnic Observance Programs. This month, we are conducting the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Program on May 18, 2015 from 10:00-11:30 in the Bob Jones Auditorium of the Sparkman Center Complex, Building #5304, on Redstone Arsenal.
DI State Champions at DMS
Discovery was well-represented at the Destination Imagination state tournament Saturday at UAHuntsville!
In addition to the first place winners, we also had a team win third place, and a third team that had a bobble in the Instant Challenge portion of the competition, bringing them down to fifth place in a very competitive field of eight teams in Middle Level Fine Arts Challenge.

DMS Library Books are DUE BY WED, May 6
ALL DMS Library Books are due on WEDNESDAY, MAY 6, 2015. Any student that does not turn in his/her library books and pay any outstanding fines will NOT receive his/her end of the year Report Card and will not be able to pick up next year’s schedule until these fines are cleared. Please have your student(s) check with Mrs. King or Mrs. Harlow in the Library if he/she has any questions.

The Discovery Middle School Band Program offers a variety of programs to suit the needs of the students and the community.
Students are encouraged to come and try some of the instruments to find the right instrument to ensure their success.

DMS Library Needs Volunteers for Spring Book Fair
The DMS Library will be hosting its annual Spring Scholastic Book Fair April 27 – May 1, 2015. There will be LOTS of new and exciting books available for all of your summer reading wants and needs!!! Please make plans to come by and check it out!

BJHS Freshman Boys Basketball Parent Meeting Today - April 20
There will be a mandatory Parent Meeting for those that made the Summer Team tonight - Monday, April 20 at 6pm in the BJ Harvard Room. Enter through the Aux Gym, walk into the school from the gym, enter into the new commons area and follow the stairs up to the 2nd floor. The Harvard Room will be located in an all glass classroom as you come up the stairs.

The Bob Jones High School 2015 Summer School Schedule is now available. You may pick up the forms at the front desk or print them off the BJHS web-site under the Academics Menu.
BJHS Stadium Chairs on Sale by Boys Soccer
Anyone interested in purchasing a Bob Jones Stadium Chair from the Boys Soccer Booster Club can contact Linda Sieja at firstname.lastname@example.org. The chairs are excellent quality, very durable, and look great, too! They are GREAT 'back-savers' compared to sitting on regular bleachers AND they keep you from sitting on cold or wet bleachers as well! $45.00 each.
