#BearkatBEST, #❤️ofaBearkat - March 2022
Our Vision: Educating the whole child: mind, body and spirit!
Mote's Note - A note from the Principal - Kyla Mote
Here comes March! Everyday counts. Please help us by having students at school for full days as often as possible. Teachers begin class at 8:40am and truly teach until 4:08pm so coming late and/or leaving early means students are missing instruction. (Students who are sick should remain home and we will continue to make up work when they return).
We are very excited about our book fair next week and can't wait to see everyone on Tuesday night for our family night at the book fair. If you can not make it Tuesday, you may send money with your child during the week to allow them to shop. We will also have our bilingual spanish parent night on Tuesday.
Spring Break is then ahead - March 14-18. Please be safe and enjoy making memories together.
When we return, we will have our Boosterthon big fundraiser kickoff on the 22nd. This is our only large fundraiser for the year so we hope that you will all be able to support our school and pto through contributions. Students who get donations will be part of our Bearkat Bash day with blowups and fun on March 31st. More info will come out soon. These funds raised pay for field trips, online learning programs, cultural arts programs, teacher appreciation and so much more. We thank you in advance for helping with this.
We will also be taking benchmark tests and evaluating our growth from August to present.
We will wrap up the month with our "We Love Texas" 2nd grade program on the 29th and 30th.
Looking ahead: The Astros have invited us to come as a group to see them play on April 24th. We have reserved tickets waiting to be purchased here but they are first come first serve:
Link: https://fevo.me/blackelementary We will all get to sit together to cheer them on. The Astros will be giving the school back a portion of these ticket sales as a thank you for coming to cheer them on.
A few quick reminders:
-lunch vistors are welcome Monday-Thursday, except on major testing days (March 22, 23, 24 and May 10, 11, 12).
-We do not have staff runners throughout the day to deliver lunches or items left at home. We have a one time courtesy drop off per student for something so please help us by checking to make sure students have what they need before they come to school.
-All students should all have an ID tag attached to their backpack at all times.
Thank you again for all you do to support our school and our community.
Congrats to our Name That Book team that will compete at the district level on March 29th.

Destination Imagination
Shoutout to our two Destination Imagination teams who competed on February 12th at the Gulf Coast Regional Destination Imagination tournament.
Our first grade team, The Funny Schmuzzie Flufflepuff Ninja Kids, competed in the Rising Stars challenge for their inaugural year. They composed a skit focused on monster manners and worked together to fix something that was broken. From costume creation, prop building to developing their own song, these Bearkats exemplified their Bearkat BEST every step of the way! Congrats team!
Our second Bearkat team, Breck’s Shmickle Biscuits, competed as a Middle school level team as their team is made up of current 5th graders and former students who are now 6th graders. This team completed the Service Learning challenge, where they developed a community service project and then put together a performance using technical methods to demonstrate their work. This team won 3rd place at the tournament and did an amazing job making a beautiful garden at the school. They used teamwork and compromise to develop a fun and entertaining presentation. Great work representing Black Elementary!
Destination Imagination begins every September with new challenges and is open to CFISD students. Learn more about DI at idodi.org or email destinationimagination@blackpto.net to ask questions
