Te Rōhutu Whio 28th March 2022
Kia ora e te whānau!
Who can believe that we are nearly at the end of Term 1? We are loving teaching your tamariki and learning all about what makes them unique. We are so excited that, all going smoothly, we will be able to welcome you to drop your tamariki into learning spaces at the beginning of Term 2!
As of today, we have around 25% of our tamariki either isolating or with covid so we will stick with our current plan of whānau dropping off tamariki at the gate for at least the rest of the term to keep our community safe.
Our kanohi ki te kanohi face to face personalised learning conferences take place on Thursday 14th of April and Monday 2nd May. Normal classes resume on Tuesday 3rd of May. Please book your conference on the link below. Busy Bumbles will have free sessions available on learning conference days for those who need childcare during the learning conference times.
Kia pai te rā. Enjoy your day.

Holi celebration
On Paraire 18th March, our learning village celebrated the traditional Indian festival of colours, otherwise known as Holi. Our Whakatipu Kaihautū sports leaders planned an exciting course around the whīra field which we set up at lunchtime. This involved jumping from hoop to hoop, running through hurdles, bouncing on a trampoline, zig zagging through ropes and under a parachute, before arriving at the sprinklers and color dust station.
Our ākonga learners had so much fun running around their course and celebrated with an Indian inspired dance at the end!
Whanaungatanga: feeling and being part of a big family. At Te Rōhutu Whio we love to celebrate special days and seasons alongside our whānau!
Year 7-8 Spanish Class
Our year 7-8 ākonga have been taking part in zoom Spanish sessions each week with the VLN. We have a 30 minute class online with our teacher Madlen, and then we spend some time learning on activities in our google classroom. Our first couple of lessons have been all about meeting each other, and learning how to use the technology. We will be digging in to some new learning from this week.

Rugby Skills Session
On Paraire 25th March, we had our first visit from Isaac, a rugby activator from Canterbury Sport who came in to complete a rugby skills session with our tamariki years 5-8. Isaac will be coming in again for 2 more sessions.
Our ākonga had a blast learning new skills which includes how to properly throw and catch a rugby ball and practising how to tackle. Part of the tackling skills was understanding how they can position their bodies to ensure they do not get hurt.
Rangatiratanga: We love trying new things at Te Rōhutu Whio and being able to share the things we learnt with others.
