Principal's Corner
Dear Lake Forest Community High School,
Here is a rare Friday Fanout on a Thursday, but with the day off tomorrow, we wanted to make sure we got this out to our Scout community! As I type, so many of our parents and several community members are participating in our Scouting Your Future. As I previewed the panelists today, I saw many tremendous opportunities for our students to see and hear all about different industries and professions, from Law to Media to Finance to Sports Marketing and more. Thank you to all those who participated or volunteered their time and talent, and our APT and Department of Educational Services for coordinating this annual event! The Scout Future is bright!
I was perusing Instagram, trying to keep up with all the “likes,” and I realized how far behind I often get with regards to social media. I try to stay current, but it feels like with each minute, something passes me by–and then I realized, that is actually a good thing. Not a good thing that many amazing activities of our Scouts are passing me by, but that there are so many amazing things, that even one day away feels like one day too many. This is why we rely on our community to keep us as informed as possible, send us pictures, and send us celebrations. We want to make sure that our Fanout is as fantastic as our Scouts deserve for it to be. Amazing Scout celebrations this week to note: Our Lady Scouts Tennis Team headed to State, and our Student of the Quarter celebration (award recipients are listed below) was a success!
Today was the first time in 14 years that I have participated in Parent Teacher Conferences as a teacher. Two things were confirmed: 1. Our parents are amazing advocates and support for LFHS (apples not falling far from the trees are now coming to mind); and 2. Five minutes goes by so quickly! Please remember our Communication Flowchart is in place, so if more information is needed or questions are still unanswered, there is always an opportunity to open the lines of communication.
Finally, with the first quarter down, I wanted to send a reminder that yes, attendance still matters! It’s even its own paragraph in this Fanout–that is how much attendance matters to us.
Wishing you all the best,
Erin Lenart

SCOUTS NICE TO KNOW
Students of the Quarter
Nadia Breedt
Nadia is new to the school this year from South Africa. She moved into MAH about a week into school this year and she hit the ground running. We have been incredibly impressed with not only her academic performance (she chose to jump into the hardest math class she could take having not gone through our “traditional path/process” to get to MAH). She has a great personality and positive attitude towards learning but also is kind, caring, and empathetic to her peers where she is more than willing to collaborate and help. She has also shown incredible grit with her ability to handle setbacks and her willingness, positive attitude, and growth mindset to persevere. ~Brian Runft
Lincoln Durchslag
Lincoln has done a great job participating in projects and group discussions. He has been very diligent in getting his work done and communicating with his teachers. ~Phil LaScala
Tom Foley
I remember a moment about three years ago sitting on a Google Meet with Tom (when we were home for Covid) and he said to me, “I gotta make a change”. I’ve never seen someone make their dreams a reality so quickly. Tom, the determination, grit, and outstanding character I have seen from you in the last four years has blown me away. You have been this shining light in the Lake Forest High School community - showing up as your best self in your classrooms, on stage, and afterschool. Your kindness, your talent, and your self-awareness are extremely impressive. Enjoy these last few months of your high school experience, you deserve every success that comes your way. ~Laura Stetson
Audrey Marx
Audrey is a student in my biology class (which I co-teach with Cindy Dell). We both absolutely love all the wonderful students in this class, and we always end the period with big smiles on our faces. More than once, I remember turning to Cindy and saying “WOW, that Audrey…she is sharp as a tack!” Audrey has that ability, rare in any student let alone in a freshman, of making creative connections between new and prior information. She has a quick, analytical mind loves a challenge and to top it all off, she is very good at Pictionary! ~Tamar Cooney
Janel Sharman
Janel has taken full advantage of the outside of class experiences starting in Summer Stories to Cooperstown, Catalyst and LA. She has been a leader and asks incredible questions and fully taken advantage of the opportunities provided. ~Steve Douglass (pictured with Matt Begale and Dan Panfil)
Ben Smith
He is an outstanding student in woodcraft - a student who is the most genuine person I know. Ben works hard, thinks of others, and looks for the good. ~Chuck Spagnoli
Jack Taylor
Jack's work, leadership, and commitment to the fall show has not only helped make our jobs easier as directors but it has also helped tremendously in transforming portions of this show and helping bring the story to life. He has taken it upon himself to learn and create music and play the piano throughout the show. Honestly, I'm amazed at his talent, work, creativity, commitment and dedication. ~Joe Pulio, Sara Dreiling
Adalie Wagoner
Adalie has advocated for herself and comes to PLT on a regular basis to be on top of her classes. She offers to help others regularly and is a cheerful, friendly face every day. ~Carly Turik
Dylan Walsh
Despite never having taken a Journalism class before, Dylan jumped right in and established himself as a quality writer and leader. He volunteered to be an Editor and took over the football beat. He has excelled at both these positions from the moment he started. He also goes out of his way to help his classmates because The Forest Scout is important to him. ~Ray Del Fava
Lili Walsh
Lilli consistently shows growth, curiosity, and leadership. She explores the possibilities of each medium, whether it be 2D or 3D. Lilli is incredibly coachable, asking for feedback, exploring new media, and applying it to her work. She shows leadership through her work on Art Club exec and recently joined Young Idea. She is a source of encouragement to others and fully understands that by lifting others up, we all are better off. ~Jen Thomas
Alexander Sichen Wan
Chenchen is a very capable and self-motivated Mandarin student who always participates positively in class. He works diligently and takes risks with the Mandarin language every day. He set high expectations for himself and always wants to do better despite that he already gets an A on everything in my class. Chenchen is also great with his fellow students and helps them all the time. The students in his class also trust Chenchen and his Mandarin knowledge, as they would ask him questions or double-check their answers with him when I was helping another student and not immediately available. Chenchen sometimes is like a TA in my class without receiving the actual TA credit. It is my great pleasure to have Chenchen in Mandarin. Congratulations! ~Han Xiao, Rachel Abel
Andrew White
Andrew is a positive force in our classes. He sees something that needs to be done and does it without being asked. Andrew is respected by both students and staff because he is a genuinely good guy. ~Ray Werner, Mike Mizwicki
Athletics
Lake County Home Show
As part of the Incubator program, students Connell Sassen, Pride Haggerty, Sarina Vora, and Sean Kupperman developed a new product called EZ plugs. They were awarded money at last years Pitch Night to create a company and sell this new innovative product. As part of their work in this years Accelerator program, the students attended the Lake County Home Show where they had a booth promoting their business and new product. As a result they made a great deal of business contacts, potential customers and have recently applied to be entrepreneurs on the program Shark Tank.
