English Language Arts (ELA)
The kindergarten ELA program is dividing into different components. Below is a description of each component and what your child will be learning the upcoming week.
Daily Message
This week in Daily Message we will...
- edit the daily message by finding and fixing the errors.
- find the noun and/or verb in the message.
- find sight words we have learned in the message.
Word Work
This week in Word Work we will...
- segment and blend cvc words.
- identify the beginning and end sound of /t/.
- review the sound of short a .
- blend, read, and write words with review letters: /s/s, /m/m, /a/a, /p/p, /t/t
- identify the sight word like
Shared Reading
This week in Shared Reading we will...
- ask and answer questions about key details in the text.
- identify main topic and retell key details of the text.
- determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words.
Grammar/Writing
This week in Grammar/Writing we will...
- identify verbs as action words.
- share ideas by drawing.
- writing words to finish a sentence.
- end a sentence with a period.
- draw pictures that match spoken contributions.
Centers
This week in Centers we will...
- roll and rainbow write a sight word.
- use shapes in order to create a robot.
- color, count, and graph shapes.
- add the sight word and color words in order to create a book
- work with the teacher on specific skills .
Math
Unit 2: Counting and Comparing
This week in math we will...
- compare two objects to determine which is longer.
- sort objects into two categories according to length.
- develop language for comparing quantities (more, greater, less, fewer, most, least, fewest, same and equal to)
Content
Science
This week in Science we will...
- describe and record attributes of types of apples.
- compare the tastes of apples.
- identify the life cycle of an apple tree and it’s changes through the seasons.
Social Studies
This week in Social Studies we will...
- identify the events in the life of John Chapman.
- identify foods that are made from apples.
Specials
Monday - Art (wear an art smock)
Tuesday - Music
Wednesday - P.E. (wear sneakers)
Thursday - Library (return library books)
Friday - Dance (wear sneakers)

Volunteer Training
Birthday Celebration
We will celebrate monthly birthdays on the last Friday (if possible) of each month. Parents are welcome to celebrate their child's birthday with us. Please make sure that you have completed and returned the volunteer application and training/certificate. There is no food allowed at these celebrations. However, your child may choose to share a book for our class library, a game for indoor or outdoor recess, a small item like a pencil, or a craft to do during the celebration.

Important Dates
- 10/31 - Halloween Celebration (9:30 Parade and 9:45-11:10 class party)...more info to follow. Make sure to send in a change of clothing for your child.
