TRES HOSTS GRANDPARENTS
Turkey Run Elementary students hosted their grandparents for a special program. The students introduced the grandparents to a morning meeting, had a live daily announcements broadcast, told them about the Seven Habits of the school's Leader in Me program and each class sang a special song. Following the program, grandparents were invited to attend their grandchild's classroom.
FCCLA FALL RALLY
On Thursday, September 26 members from PHHS FCCLA traveled to Purdue University for the Indiana FCCLA Fall Rally. Students took an informational tour of Purdue's Health and Human Sciences Programs, including Hospitality and Culinary Arts, Public Health, FCS Education and General Health and Human Sciences.
Students enjoyed lunch catered by Purdue Memorial Union catering, then broke out in sessions where they discussed leadership opportunities in FCCLA and STAR events (FCCLA state competitive events) in the spring. Students wrapped up by taking a campus tour. It was a very informational and fun day!
SEVENTH GRADE VOLLEYBALL team IS BANKS OF WABASH CHAMPS
The Parke Heritage seventh grade volleyball team was victorious over an undefeated Riverton Parke team to win the Banks of the Wabash tournament held at Montezuma on Saturday, September 28.
In the first match, PH defeated North Vermillion 25-11 and 25-16. In the championship match against the Panthers, the Wolves won 25-20, 13-25, and 15-11.
FFA MEMBERS ATTEND COB AND COG
Parke Heritage High School FFA members attended the Cob and Cog Agriculture and Engineering competition on Friday, September 27 at Ivy Tech Community College in Terre Haute.
Over 700 students from 20 high schools attended this event sponsored by Duke Energy. The competition provided high school students an opportunity to compete in 21 competitions in the areas of technology, engineering, agriculture and precision agriculture.
HS PARTICIPATES IN Conservation day
PH students spread out in the Rockville and Parke County area to collect as much trash as possible. South Vermillion and Riverton Parke students also participated in the clean-up project.
Riverton Parke won the Trash Tournament by picking up 4,287 pounds of trash. South Vermillion was second with 3,996 pounds and Parke Heritage third with 3,009 pounds, for a total of 11,292 pounds.
Prizes were also presented for the heaviest, the longest, and the most unusual pieces of trash. The winners were SV for the heaviest piece, which was a 240-pound couch. Parke Heritage won in the longest category, which was an old sewer snake. SV also won with the most unusual piece, which was a loaded firearm.
APPLE STUDIES
COLLEGE GO WEEK
During the month of September, the students at Turkey Run Elementary explored what careers are and the different colleges in Indiana. The guidance lessons discussed career options that vary from vocational programs, workforce certification, apprenticeships, and college degrees. As a part of this study, students participated in dress-up days.
The days included: Monday: Your future is bright, wear neon or bright colors; Tuesday: We want to be: Career dress up day; Wednesday: MARVEL at your future: dress up as your favorite Super Hero; Thursday: Favorite College Colors and Friday: Turkey Run Elementary Spirit Day.

DONATIONS NEEDED: The Vet Science program at Parke Heritage High School is seeking donations of supplies for their program. Needed items include: paper towels, old blankets or towels, laundry detergent, plastic grocery bags for "poop pick-up", dog treats (made in the USA only please), dog toys, mop solution, trash bags (kitchen size 13 gallon, and 39 gallon) and newspapers. Items can be dropped off at the high school office.
FAFSA INFORMATION: The Federal Financial Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open. Seniors need to fill out the FAFSA as soon as you can to receive financial aid for college next year. You need to apply for FAFSA even if you haven't applied to colleges yet. The FAFSA provides financial aid, grants and scholarships for students. PARKE HERITAGE HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOKS: The 2018-2019 Parke Heritage High School yearbooks are in. Students who pre-ordered have received their books. Graduates may pick their copy up in the high school office. A LIMITED number of yearbooks are available for purchase for $50 on a first come-first served basis. POST PROM PARKING: Juniors and their parents are needed for the parking fundraiser during the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival. Anyone who can work a shift can email Lindy Price at lindy1121@me.com. Heidi Millspaugh, Chelsea Wood, Melissa Smith or Kim Grayless are also signing workers up for shifts. POST PROM RAFFLE: Post prom is holding a raffle for a YETI cooler, YETI cup, Wolves seat cushions, Wolves t-shirts and a Wolves hat. Tickets are on sale at the home football games $5 each or 5 for $20. The raffle will take place on October 11 during the football game with Riverton Parke. Raffle items are compliments of PHHS Booster Club, Crow Hollow, Rich Schelsky and Tabby Dugger.
