Mental Health Awareness Month and the Benefits of Self Care Practices
Wednesday, May 25, 2022
7:00-8:30 PM
For many of us, self-care means doing the things that we enjoy most to improve our quality of life. But several things can prevent us from engaging in regular self-care; whether it be prioritizing the care of others over ourselves, simply not having time, or may not be maximizing the effects of our self-care activities. Join some of the clinical staff from High Focus Centers as we present some of the evidence-based, therapeutic principles of self-care from licensed therapists.

APPOINTMENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
Start Times at BAS
Please know that doors open at BAS at 8:20 AM each morning. It is important to arrive between 8:20 AM and 8:30 AM in order to support a smooth transition into school for your child. When children enter after 8:30 AM, a parent/guardian must sign in the child in the main office. Arriving late may lead to disruption for the child and the classroom. Please try your best to enter through your assigned door between 8:20 AM and 8:30 AM each morning. Thank you!
Attendance: If your child is going to be absent, please make sure to call 908-709- 6973 and/or email lazo@cranfordschools.org . Please include your child's name (first and last), grade, and the reason for the absence. If the absence is due to illness, kindly list any and all symptoms the child is experiencing.
BAS Monthly Symptom Awareness Sign Off
Please complete the updated May Covid 19 Monthly Symptom Awareness for each child you have at BAS. BAS Student Covid 19 Symptom Awareness Form May. This form will also be sent via text message.
Moving Towards Normalcy

Covid 19 Data Dashboard
For information regarding Covid -19 cases reported to the district, please click on the data dashboard link below. This link is located on the Cranford Public Schools website. The data on the dashboard reflects the number of positive COVID-19 cases, including students and staff, reported to the District during the time frame indicated. This data will be updated by 4 pm daily.
Registration for School Year 2022-2023:

Annual Health Screenings
According to the N.J. Department of Education, the goal of school health services is to strengthen and facilitate the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children and staff.
Since health and intellectual development of children are interrelated, the following is a list of state mandated screening services provided by the school nurse.
Height, Weight and B/P: all grade levels, including preschool
Hearing Screening: Preschool through 3rd grade
Vision Screening: Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade.
Scoliosis Screening: 5th grade
We will be conducting health screenings throughout the school year. In order to minimize loss of instructional time and outdoor activities we will try to schedule screenings at times when bad weather conditions restrict outdoor recess or on days when there is a substitute teacher. In order to prevent anxiety among students regarding these trips to the nurse, please let them know that these screenings are nothing to worry about and will not include any "shots". Students will be called to the nurse's office in pairs since this seems to make them more comfortable.
Deviations from normal will be reported to the parents as per state guidelines. Parents who wish to opt-out of any mandated screenings, must notify the school nurse in writing, and provide the data from their healthcare practitioner.
UPDATED Covid 19 Reporting Form
Here is the new form to report positive Covid-19 cases and close contacts. This revised form will streamline the process for you, as well as the nurses. Once the form is submitted, you will receive an email from the nurses providing instructions. Do not send your child into school while you await instructions from the nursing staff. The greatest assistance you can provide is to keep your child home when they are sick.
Lunch and Recess
Recess: Students will continue to go outside for recess even when it is cold. Please make sure to dress students for the cold weather as we want to get them outside as much as possible. Also, note that the fields can get muddy. Please keep this in mind when dressing your children.
If it is necessary to remain inside, students will have indoor recess in the classroom. The BAS PTA purchased multiple items for children to use during this time while maintaining an appropriate distance.
Instruction for Students on Quarantine
Given the number of students who are currently quarantined, it makes sense to shift from the home instruction model to a “live streaming” model for those who are quarantined in grades 3 through 12. This new model will be in place for the month of January and then the District will reassess moving forward. Please understand that this allows students who are quarantining to listen in on the class. This model does not include two-way communication. Your child is always welcome to follow up with the teacher at a later time and their teacher will do everything possible to assist your child upon their return.
Grades Pre-K through 2 will continue with the home instruction model when an individual is quarantined. Principals will reach out with more information.
