Social Media, Algorithms, and More "I didn't know that!"
How Much Do Social Media Algorithms Control You?
Social media content is not random – It’s curated for you by recommendation algorithms that are designed to keep you on the app for as long as possible. But is this a good thing? Encourage your students to become media savvy and explore how these algorithms can help your students (and YOU) feel seen and build community while controlling what you have access to.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Facts about Wikipedia
Is Wikipedia accurate? It houses 6.6 million articles on virtually any topic from “Taylor Swift” to “toast sandwiches.” But proceed with caution – that trove of information has been labeled “off limits” by educators worldwide because anyone can edit entries. In this lesson, your students will learn how accurate Wikipedia really is, how to use it responsibly for their schoolwork, and how to recognize potential misinformation.

The TeachingBooks Reader's Advisory tool is a great way to discover new books that match individual interests. You can see "Discover Like Books" on every title's page for suggestions, or you can go right to the Reader's Advisory home page, where you can search by:
Books That are Similar to a Favorite Title
Books Based on Authors, Subjects, or Series

Don't forget that you can share persistent links to resources. It's a powerful way to expand reading horizons!
Where Are the Resources in Tigrinya?
Here are a few tips on where you can find Google Translate for dozens of languages.
1. Encyclopedia Britannica. Go to the article level and look for the globe icon. Some articles will also give you different reading levels in that language.
2. Learn360. Translate the script beside the video. Students can view the video in English or turn off audio and follow along with the transcript.
3. This is a spreadsheet of accessibility features for the digital resources that HAEA provides.
