BLAST - Building Leaders for Advancing Science and Technology offers an exciting way for rising 9th and 10th grade students to spend three days of summer! Participating students get to stay in a college dorm and see what campus life is like on-site at one of our three partner universities: Old Dominion University, Virginia Tech, or the University of Virginia. Each day of BLAST is jam-packed with science, technology, engineering, and math-related (STEM) activities and demonstrations led by faculty of the university. Students come away from BLAST with a greater sense of curiosity, deeper insight about the variety of careers that exist in STEM, and enhanced readiness for advanced STEM programs. Click the links provided to watch videos from past BLAST sessions. You will find more information about the program, as well as the online application, through the tabs above.

This Week in SEL/Homeroom
We have just begun to introduce a very valuable topic about LABELS. What do you think of when you hear this word? What would it be like to do your grocery shopping if the shelves were full of canned goods without any identifiers?
Negative labels can hurt your future, but positive labels can help you achieve your goals and attain better opportunities. Ultimately, the label you wear depends on you: you can change your negative labels by changing your actions and showing others your strengths and positive traits.
For further conversations with your student: While assigning labels is human nature, what can we do to make sure we are using them in positive ways? Open a conversation about the value and dangers of assigning labels to others and even to ourselves. What can you learn from your student?
Can you help? Just answer a quick question below that helps connect us from home to school? Participants will be entered into a drawing for a family gift each quarter. There are only a couple of weeks left to play this round.
Access the quick survey question hereTHANK YOU!!!
Spring Cabaret!
ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS! I don't know about you but I have missed theater life! This year we are going to try something new but still have the opportunity to perform by experiencing new things in a musical way! In order to abide by CDC and school board Covid-19 safety guidelines, we've made a plan to have a "Cabaret" this year instead of a full show. We have chosen a few scenes from four crowd favorite musicals. By doing this we will be able to have smaller cast rehearsals while still having enough roles for more students to be involved. Included are a few questions polling the interest level for our LMS Cabaret "Broadway Favorites!"
Click Here to fill out the interest poll.
ATTENTION ALL SINGERS! If you love singing and want to mold your talents in a place where others also want to learn music...choir is the place to be! Choir is a class where we work together to make beautiful music. In the past, the LMS choir has performed everything from historic art songs to pop culture favorites! If you would like more information about joining the choir please contact Mrs. Hill at <hillme@lcsedu.net>
