I can’t believe today is the last day of school for the 2020-2021 school year. This year has been a trying year for our students, staff, and families. But I believe that going through this experience has brought us closer together than ever! There is still a great deal of healing ahead of us and I know as we walk through the next school year together, we will come out even stronger yet again. #STRONGERTOGETHER
Please join me in congratulating the amazing graduating Class of 2021 on their accomplishments and wish them well as they leave our hallowed halls to take on the next chapter of their lives. I was sorry to miss attending graduation. This short video was shared with the students at graduation to wish them well on the next chapter of their journey.
Decatur Student Center Town Hall
Job(s) Well Done
Last Saturday, DHS hosted the annual Rock and Roll Review. Wow!!! What a great event. It was so fun to see our teachers and staff performing and the amazing student bands! Thank you Jennifer Gonzalez and Noemi Griffin for sponsoring this great event and empowering our student leaders in organizing this tradition. Special shout out to the DHS Staff who performed: Noemi Griffin, Mark Little, Paul Johnson, Alex Sawyer, Andrew Kessel, Courtney Fetters, Tasha Ogletree, and Wes Hatfield. Congratulations to the student bands as well!!! You sounded spectacular!
Coach Gilbert - Coach of the Year
Robby Gilbert, Head DHS Baseball Coach, has been named the DeKalb County Region 5AAAAA Baseball Coach of the Year. Congrats, Coach Gilbert!
Herr Snider - German Teacher of the Year

Amazing RMS Staff
Wednesday, a parent sent me an email recognizing the amazing staff at Renfroe. The parent shared the overwhelming support and love the team at RMS gave her daughter this year to make her feel welcomed and loved. Thank you Ms. Hudson, Ms. Sauls, and Ms. Jackson for going above and beyond to help this student.
Glennwood Picnic Tables
Thank you Daniel Hinton for building picnic tables for the students at Glennwood as part of your Eagle Scout Project. And thank you to the Home Depot on Wages Drive for donating the materials!End of the Year Events
I was able to get to several end-of-the-year events this week. Thank you to all our staff and school leaders for putting these events together for our students. I know each school had events this week, but I just wasn’t able to get to all of them.
FAVE Finale
Thank you Ms. Newton-Scott, the leadership team, 5th-grade teachers, and specials teachers for sending off the 5th graders with style. I’m Still Standing has been stuck in my head all week!
WP Olympics
Huge shout out to Carrie Beauchamp at WP for organizing an amazing Olympics day. I learned a new game: bear, salmon, and mosquito and even got to play a few rounds with the students. Ms. Beauchamp also live-streamed the event so the virtual students could participate as well.
Oakhurst Over the Top
The Oakhurst staff said bon voyage to their graduating class of 2nd graders in a car parade as well and the staff definitely shined in their Oakhurst Team Spirit.
RMS Parade
Renfroe hosted an 8th-grade send-off parade on Wednesday! DJ McAdoo MC’d the event as the 8th-grade teachers cheered on the students!
