It was such a pleasure to have Avery's mom as our Mystery Reader. She read us some great books that made us think, giggle and feel. Thank you for coming! We were very busy with lots of projects this week. We had to deal with a big schedule switch Tues-Thurs as we accomodated the upper grades taking their benchmark tests. It made us appreciate having fine arts in the afternoon! We made it through, but those afternoons were LONG!
Please start sending in a Valentine Box or a large gift bag to collect Valentines in. Also, they may bring their Valentines for their classmates any day. We will pass them all out and then on Wednesday we will open them and enjoy a cookie from our fabulous PTA. Such a sweet tiime!
The 101st Day of School is here! On Monday, please dress your child in black and white or even better, like a dalmatian. We will have a special snack (oreos, of course), do some fun activities and watch the original cartoon classic 101 Dalmatians. It is rated G. They have worked so very hard for so many days, we deserve a reward! Fun times!
Please remember to always check the weather in the morning and be sure your child is prepared for recess. If the wind chill is 34' or higher, we do go out. A thin hoodie is just simply not very warm in these situations. It is also a little windier at the top of the hill on the playground. I make them take their jackets, non-negotiable and then they can decide once they are up their playing. So check that hourly weather forecast and see what 12:00 will look like. Thank you! I really believe they need to go outside as much as possible.
Have a good weekend! It is chilly, so stay warm. I'm whipping up some Chile Blanco today and getting an early Valentine dinner on Sunday at an Argentine restaurant in Dallas. Whoopie!

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
Language Arts-We complete our media literacy unit by making movie posters out of our favorite story books and creating our own brands of cereal. We read a story Goat in the Rug and learned about the Navajo custom of weaving. We also began Mr. Popper's Penguins and are loving it! Thank you again for the book donations.
Science/Social Studies-We are learning about natural resources. We have talked about renewable and nonrenewable ones, reduce, reuse and recycle and where many of the things we use come from.
