Message from Dr. Kaminski
Today marks the completion of part one of ISTEP testing (written format) for our 4th graders. I was really impressed with the positive spirit and enthusiasm that the kids showed during the week. Thanks to all of you who reminded your kiddos to do their personal best and assisted with positive sleep and eating schedules. Next week our 3rd grade class will take their ISTEP assessments (written format). Third grade parents and guardians, this is your chance to follow the lead of our 4th grade parents and guardians with the same message! Third grade students will also take the state IREAD assessment the following week, so keep that message coming for two solid weeks. The great news is that this is the last year for ISTEP! The new ILEARN assessment will only take one test session and will be completed on the iPad. This assessment will also not be timed, so students can test in a stress free manner. Let's all finish strong with this assessment year and remember all K-4 students will take the NWEA reading and math assessment prior to the end of the year.
Thanks to all of our car rider families who are being extra cautious and safe in transitions in the car rider line. We appreciate your desire to keep our BSE Bears safe! Have a wonderful weekend and go Boilers!
Thank you -
Dr. Kaminski

Snack Attack Program
Brooks School Elementary is pleased to announce the start of a program for those kids on the Free or Reduced Lunch Programs (or really any student in need!). The program is called Indy Snack Attack and is designed to help those kids who need a little extra nourishment to get them through the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.
Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack on Friday to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, or crackers/peanut butter just to name a few. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy. They will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
There is no cost to you or the school. If you are interested in having your student participate in Indy Snack Attack or have questions please contact Andrea Thorne, school counselor, at 317-915-4250 or athorne@hse.k12.in.us.

SafeVisitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their SafeVisitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the SafeVisitor App (iPhone/Android) or have your badge available when you come into the school. Looking up names occasionally leads to signing in the wrong guest.
Upon leaving the school, please turn your printed badge in to the office staff for quick check-out.
