Weekly News--April 25-29

Principal's Message

Celebrating Earth Day last week helped our students think of ways to reduce our waste at school. One way you can help us to reduce waste is by sending a refillable water bottle with your child to school. Thank you for your help!

This past week we celebrated Administrative Assistant and Nurse's Day. Nurse Jessica, Mrs. Leanna, and Mrs. Heidi were able to visit classrooms where students gave them cards and gifts. We appreciate all they do for our students, staff, and families.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 2 - 6! Please join me in thanking our teachers for all they do for our students. Our PTA is planning some fun treats for them next week. Please contact our PTA if you would like to help.

Our School Site Council would appreciate feedback. If you haven't already done so, please complete this brief survey by tomorrow (April 30).

Please call the office or you can reach me via email at if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a fantastic weekend!

1st Grade Students Get Ready to Read!

Click here to see our first graders!

The more you read,

The better you get,

So… read, read, READ!📚

Every single 1st grade student is working in a small reading group from 2:00 - 2:30 p.m. Tuesday - Friday with our kindergarten teachers, 1st grade teachers, and other members of our reading intervention team.

⭐️PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF THIS VALUABLE READING TIME⭐️ and refrain from scheduling appointments and pulling your kids from school early. What a gift this time is for our young readers!

Staff Feature

Each week we will use this section to introduce you to our staff at McKinley. This week we will introduce you to staff who provide support for our students.

Mrs. Melissa Huffman

School Counselor

Mrs. Huffman has been part of the Susanville community since 1997. She starting working with the Lassen County Office of Education in 2014. Over the past 7 years, she has worked in all schools in the county. This year she joins the Susanville School District team and serves at McKinley on Thursdays and Meadow View on Tuesdays. Although she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), her role while working in the schools is to provide social-emotionally related education services. She assists teachers in promoting academic and emotional growth for our students' educational success. With parent consent, she is able to work with students both individually and in groups. She is also able to help families find and connect families with community resources. Our students and staff love having Mrs. Huffman on our campus. Her commitment to seeing our students thrive in their classrooms and with their peers is amazing. Thank you, Mrs. Huffman, for all that you are doing for the McKinley community! We appreciate you!
