PSAT Day - Wednesday, October 12th
PSAT Day at NHS is a full school day - Wednesday, October 12th from 9:10 A.M. - 3:45 P.M.
Students are expected to attend the full day and to arrive on time. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will all be testing. Seniors will be out of the building on educational experiences (see below). Please help us make this a priority for your student!
What: PSAT 8/9 Digital for freshmen; PSAT/NMSQT for sophomores and juniors
When: Starts at 9:10 A.M. on Wednesday, 10/12/22 - will end around 1:30 P.M.
Where: Northridge High School, in students' SRT classrooms
Why: The PSAT is the best practice exam for the SAT, which is now the Indiana's Accountability Assessment given to ALL students in their junior year cohort. Additionally, the scores and results can help students pinpoint areas for academic growth and guide test prep. Juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT have the opportunity to compete for scholarship opportunities. Additionally, We can use the PSAT score to qualify students to take future dual credit courses.
Pre-Registration: Students will complete their pre-registration during SRT on Monday, October 10th.
Seniors: On PSAT Day (October 12th), Senior students are encouraged to job shadow, volunteer for service work, or go on a college or tech school visit. We have permission slips in the NHS Attendance Office they need to pick up and have completed to take care of their attendance for the day. ** If Seniors are Elkhart Area Career Center or Work-Based Learning students, they should go to those placements during the regular times and then schedule one of the activities for the hours they would normally be at NHS.
Northridge High School Attendance Information
- Please report the absence as soon as possible. You can call the attendance number and leave a message 24/7.
- A non-verified absence is an unexcused absence.
- There are two ways to be assigned to the ECAP program and that is 4 uncleared absences or 10 excused absences occur without doctor documentation. They then become absences of concern. ECAP stands for Elkhart County Attendance Program. The state of Indiana requires us to take these steps to make sure that every student has the opportunity to receive an education. You may also find more information about the ECAP program in the student handbook. If you have any questions or concerns about the NHS attendance policy, please call Mrs. Gage @ 574/822-5206 or via email at gaged@mcsin-k12.org

Important Information from NHS SCHOOL COUNSELING!
College Applications
This past week was FREE College Application week. Many of the schools in Indiana were waiving their applications when students were applying. Some of them will continue this benefit next week as well. Students must apply directly to the institution to receive this benefit. Check the college website for more information. Here is the list of colleges who are participating:

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The FAFSA is a Single application completed each year to apply for federal grants, work-study & loans, state of Indiana grants, and some institutional grants/scholarships. This application becomes available on October 1st and you will have until April 15th to get this filled out. It is important to note that the sooner you are able to fill this out the better. Many colleges and universities will make this a mandatory part of their institutional scholarships. The quicker your student qualifies the more money they might be eligible for.
