Ready to Explore the SAMR Model
Our technology training during PLC time this year has been focused on "creation" in the classroom. We want to use our new iPads for transforming our lessons, and in order to do that, we are beginning to explore the SAMR model, developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura. This model defines moving through a continuum from Substitution and Augmentation toward Modification and Redefinition (SAMR). The goal is for teachers to think about the SAMR model as a blueprint that helps scaffold their technology integration as they incorporate technology into their lessons. It eventually will become a framework for them to assess and evaluate the technology usage in their classrooms.
Below is a YouTube video that explains the process in more detail, using a Starbucks analogy.

Thanksgiving Feasts
It has been a long-standing tradition that our students "feast" with one another on the day before our Thanksgiving break. They fill their plates with food that may be unfamiliar to them, and they sit and visit with friends. The adults always enjoy observing the food combinations on their plates! We have a lot of parent volunteers who send in food and help serve this meal, and we are very appreciative of their support.
PTA Provides Support In So Many Ways
PTA distributes books to our students twice per year through a program called "PRK" (Parents Reading to Kids). This is such a nice gift for so many of our young students.
PTA also provides volunteers who operate our Christmas Country Store each December. It takes quite a crew to help 400+ young students shop for multiple gifts...and then wrap them all!!! Our students are delighted with the gifts they choose for their family members, and none of this would be possible without our PTA helpers.
