Kindergarten Changes

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Weather related changes to our schedule present challenges for families, as well as faculty and staff. These schedule changes have been particularly difficult for our kindergarten families.

Since January, late starts due to inclement weather have caused our AM kindergarten students to miss six days of school. While this is problematic, our AM and PM students will attend school for the same number of days, despite the delays. (There are a number of AM only days built into the calendar, as PM students do not attend on early dismissal days set aside for conferences.) With that said, we realize that the delays have caused our AM students to miss instruction in a concentrated period of time.

After review and consideration of this, we have decided to change the March 15 kindergarten schedule. While the district calendar identifies this as a day when PM will attend in the morning, AM STUDENTS ONLY WILL ATTEND ON THIS DATE.

As we plan the 2019-2020 calendar and future calendars, we will work to develop a solution that prevents the impact that inclement weather has on our kindergarten program. These changes will ensure that kindergarten students still benefit from instructional time, even when school is delayed or dismissed early. Look for more information on this when the 2019-2020 instructional calendar is distributed later this month.

We care deeply about the instruction our youngest students receive and these modifications are being made with the best educational interests of our students at heart.

Thank you for your understanding.

Stay Well,

John J. Kopicki, Ed.D.

IMPORTANT: Calendar Changes

Dear Central Bucks Family,

The school closure on Monday, March 4 will be made up on April 22. As a result, Monday, April 22 will be a regular school day for all students, grades K-12.

The first four snow days will not be rescheduled, as per the instructional calendar. Thank you.

Art Mobile

Buckingham students learn about the “Art of Pollination” in the Art Mobile that has stationed itself in the school recess yard. An excellent fusion of science and art for kids’ benefit!

CB EAST- Newsies

CB EAST presents the musical, Newsies, about the well-known newsboy strike in New York City. The East Patriot Players came and did a little demo for all the kids at Buckingham. Many former Buckingham students are participating in the play. Way to Go Might Knights!

Author Visit- Jennifer Hansen Rolli

Jennifer Hansen Rolli, a local author and illustrator came to Buckingham on Friday, March 8th to share her stories with our K-3 students. Before her assembly, she was able to have a meet and greet breakfast with some of our students that entered a poster contest! Congratulations to Addie Baab, Andrea Myers, Owen Schmidt, Owen Mitchell, Olivia Buchanan, Jude Valeri, Aiden Thompson, Payton Williams, Arlette Wong, Casey Smith, Maggie Dennis, Julianna Reinhardt, and Ruby Trachtenberg on all of your wonderful poster entries. Jennifer talked a lot about her journey as an illustrator and how she became a published writer later in her career. You can check out her artwork at our Silverman Gallery right here in Buckingham! The kids really enjoyed her stories. Click here for her website.

Author Visit- James Riley

James Riley, author of the Story Thieves series and new Revenge of Magic series came Buckingham on Monday, March 11th to talk to our 4th- 6th grades. He talked about the process of writing books and the timeline in which it takes. He made a big point to say that editing is a huge process when being a published writer which really resonated with our students, as they, too edit their published pieces along the way. One of our 6th grade classes is reading one of his books during read aloud and our library just purchased his new book which already has a waiting list in our library! Click here to check out more of his books.
