Willard Sustainability Projects:
Lunchroom Composting & Recycling
We're excited our kids will begin composting and recycling in the lunchroom next Monday! Now we need your help: if you can spare an hour between 11:15am and 1:05pm to come in and help ensure our kids are sorting correctly, we'd really appreciate it. Our youngest ones especially need help as they learn this new routine. Please sign up here: https://bit.ly/3BKuXRU
Background: Willard was among the first schools to start lunchroom composting in the spring of 2018. During the 2018/19 school year, around 5,000 lbs. of food scraps from our lunchroom and PTA events were composted, tons recycled, and so much waste, money and energy was saved. Fast forward: Willard is the 16th school in the district to start composting this school year!
Willard Tree Planting: Saturday, September 24 from 1 to 4pm
Please join the Willard Climate Action Team next Saturday, 9/24 between 1pm and 4pm to help plant seven trees on our school grounds. We have lost many big trees around our school in recent years and need to plant more so future generations can enjoy the beauty, shade and peace our trees provide. Please sign up to help here: https://bit.ly/3xvcQNs
These trees were secured by Natural Habitat Evanston via a grant offered by The Morton Arboretum's Centennial Tree Planting Initiative. Thank you, Natural Habitat Evanston!
