Franklin Falcon Flyer
News for May 2017
Dear Franklin Families:
The 2016-17 school year is quickly coming to a close. Thank you so much for welcoming me into this wonderful community. I have truly enjoyed getting to know your children. They are all great kids who enjoy learning and are excited to come to school. We have great things on the horizon for next year at Franklin! This summer we will do extensive work on our LRC space to transform it into a multi purpose 21st century learning environment. Please make sure your child(ren)'s registration is complete and submitted by June 1st. It is imperative that students are registered or else they will not be placed in a class for next year. We rely on our enrollment numbers for staffing purposes and creating diverse classrooms that best meet the needs of our students.
I look forward to experiencing all of the end of year activities and celebrations we have planned for our students and families. I wish all of our 5th grade students the very best as they move on to middle school. I know they are well prepared for this next step in their educational career. I hope you all have a relaxing, fun, and safe summer break.
Best,
Dr. Claire Kowalczyk

REGISTRATION FOR NEXT YEAR IS NOW OPEN
Please make sure you are registering your child(ren) for the upcoming 2017-18 school year. We would like all families to complete their registration by June 1st. This will give us accurate enrollment numbers and allow us to place students in classes and staff appropriately for next year. If you are having difficulty uploading residency information, please call our office for assistance.
Farewell to Our Retiring Staff
After many years of dedicated service to our Franklin students and community we have several staff members retiring at the end of the 2016-17 school year. Please join us in congratulating these wonderful staff members as they move on to the next chapter in their lives.

SPRING MAP TESTING FOR GRADES 2-5
Starting May 8th, we will be administering our end of year Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) tests in reading and mathematics to all students in grades 2-5. This data measures our student academic growth from fall to spring. We use this data in determining academic needs of students and planning our instructional and school goals for the upcoming year. Please review the schedule and make sure your child has a good night's rest before the test and eats breakfast the morning of the tests.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Kindergarten registration started on Monday, April 24th. By the end of the day, all of our morning Kindergarten slots were full. I will be sending home communication by next week informing parents if their child was placed in the morning or afternoon session.
How to Create a Positive "Digital Footprint"
New video now available for family discussion: how to create a positive "digital footprint"
District 64's Instructional Technology Coaches have created an on-demand video that families can watch together to help start a conversation about digital citizenship. Geared toward families with students in grades 3-8, Putting Your Best Foot Forward: Creating a Positive Digital Footprint will help families talk about how our digital actions create a first -- and possibly lasting -- impression, and how we can foster a positive online culture for ourselves and those we interact with both near and far. A valuable resource for families, the podcast is available whenever it's convenient for YOU to watch! This podcast is part of our continuing Parent University series - check out our other offerings, too!BOOK FAIR IS NEXT WEEK
