Please Stop Laughing at Me
Jodee Blanco
Summary
Jodee Blanco was just an ordinary girl who wanted to fit in and be liked. She always wanted to be part of the "popular" crowd. Her peers at school just didn't like Jodee and she was always the class tease. She had moved schools more than twice and has been physically beaten. When she did move schools, she would do one thing wrong and her whole class hates her. Jodee has been depressed. The beginning and end of the book she was at her class reunion and was scared to go inside to see if her old peers would apologize or they would still ignore her. It turns out they all apologized and Jodee was super happy to have went.
Character Analysis
Jodee Blanco is a 13 year old bullied teenager. She lives with her mom and dad for most of the book and is an only child. I think that Jodee is brave and Independent. "You don't get to pick who you are in this life, but you can decide what you become."
Conflict/Resoultion
The conflict is character vs self or character vs society. All that Jodee Blanco wanted was to fit in when she was in elementary school. Her decisions to help the mentally challenged kids and stick up for what she believed in caused her so called "friends" to go against her. The resolution is that after 20 years, Jodee is invited to her twenty year High School reunion. She decides to go but when she gets there she wont get out of the car. She sits in the car thinking about what if they still don't like me and make fun of me? She starts to doubt herself. She finally goes inside and gets warm welcoming and conversations. She had a wonderful time and is glad she went. She also could finally forgive them."What a desperate, pathetic fool I was. Time after time, my "friends" had shown me their true colors. Yet, I still wanted to believe they were sorry for causing me pain. p. 128"
Textual Evidence
The most powerful part is when Jodee went to the twenty year high school reunion. I think its the most powerful part out of the whole book because she finally forgave them for all the pain that they have caused her.
Book review
I give this book a 4 out of 5. I think this was a good book and everyone should read it. It's very inspirational for people who are bullied.
