Martin Luther and the 95 theses
Martin Luther and the Indulgences
Martin Luther was a priest in the 1400's and 1500's. He preached sermons to people. But, other priests started to sell indulgences to people. Indulgences were things you can buy to be your "salvation" without praying over them. He later wrote a letter to the Church and higher authorities in the church about it. He said in his letter that he thought that the selling of the indulgences was a disgrace to the church.
Martin Luther and the 95 theses
Martin Luther wrote the 95 theses, which is like a instruction manual or go-to book for Christians. He wrote it to the church and nailed it to the door of the church. The pope and other priests saw it and some accused him of being a traitor and wanted to burn him at the stake. Other priests wanted to congratulate him.
