Ninth Grade News
Week of October 26
This week is National Red Ribbon Week in schools. The purpose of RRW is to educate about drug prevention and awareness as students and the school community unite and take a visible stand against drugs. Our Student Council created a dress schedule for this week that is listed below. Thank you for encouraging your student to participate!
Our PTO and Leading Leadings are partnering for a food drive event that will support the Manna Room at UMC and Center of Hope. Knowing this event demands generous hours of parental support with access to campuses for an entire week, PTO has opted to facilitate a “Cards for Cans Drive” at each campus November 9th-13th. There are three options to support this campus & community initiative:
1. Drive-thru Can Food Drive - drop food goods at Bearcat Stadium parking lot on Saturday, November 7th from 9am-12pm. PTO will facilitate in the same manner that they do for drive-thru school supply pick-up.
2. Students can deliver the gift cards to the front office at Daniel Ninth Grade
3. Those who prefer to donate funds online directly to the PTO site can do so and our campus PTO representative will secure the card. https://aledopto.membershiptoolkit.com/login?r=%2Fpacket%2F26722
We are thankful for your partnership and are looking forward to another great week of Growing Greatness!
Sincerely,
Carolyn Ansley, Principal

Staff Spotlight
Mrs. Niki Heimke – Algebra
Mrs. Heimke, a Texas Tech graduate, has taught Algebra at DNG for the past 4 years. In her spare time, she enjoys visiting family and road trips and dreams of taking a Mediterranean cruise someday. She was inspired to teach because she struggled in school and decided that when she grew up, she wanted to help kids so that they might have a better experience. The thing she most looks forward to this year is building relationships with her students. If Mrs. Heimke could have a superpower, she’d like to be able to duplicate herself.

Nutrition & Cooking Club
The goal of the Nutrition & Cooking Club is to spark a desire in students to step into the kitchen and create something amazing. We are exploring both cooking and the nutrition of certain ingredients. In week one we talked about eggs and learned some tips for making great scrambled eggs and French toast. We also explored other ways eggs are used that may be less obvious, such as egg wash on bread, eggs used to seal the edges of pasta, and how and why eggs are an important ingredient in baked goods. In week two, we took a look at the science behind making great ice cream. Join us for culinary fun during Flex on Fridays in Mrs. Petersen's room - B202.
